re Watson .. he may retire but why would he be putting in so much into his training (as stated on AFL 360)! I would be very surprised if we were not one of his options. ok it may be the 3rd or 4th option but as Barry stated lots of upsides.
He loves the Don's but must feel so gutted by the position he was put in. He was the face of the fight and would have been draining and angry.
He would look at Sydney as a 2 to 3 year option and see how Josh Kennedy came from under a "born into a team", moved to Sydney and thrived.
There are some players that should get paid more then what they offer on the paddock. Jobe is at the top of that list.Comment

I think Sydney would suit him, but in reality its hard to see where we have the hole that he fits. Seems like a good bloke, I wish him luck, and curse his trust in Hird. Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.Comment

If he was absolutely dedicated to winning a flag and prepared to take unders, I'd take him on a 1 + 1 deal but I doubt that is the case.
I know as a senior player he should have known better and I know he was too trusting but I really feel sorry for that guy and I hope he sees the arse off that football club and J. Hird personally because he has been to hell and backComment

However,
1. I'm not sure the Suns will be takers as they will want the best talent not just more - but someone might.
2. This time round surely we would invest in a KP, probably a forward. There don't seem to be any rated a top 5 prospect, it's a midfielders draft at the top end. In Callum Twomey's phantom form guide the highest rate tall is a ruck-forward, Tim English, who Cal rates as 7th best draft prospect. However, the one he rates as "the best pure forward in the draft" - Todd Marshall - is ranked 12th - maybe gettable with pick 13? Bonus there is that he is from NSW (albeit the Victorian border). Hard to tell at this stage what pick it might take to get him, also noting the difference between a phantom form guide and a phantom draft. Maybe we are better off getting Hawthorn's first round pick for next year? We are not in a desperate rush to get more forwards (although you'd never say no!).All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

Next year we will have a midfield brigade of Hanners, JOK, Parker, Jack, Mills, Heeney, Jones and Hewett.
I think we are well covered by that. We may need some additional cover down back so Touhy would not be a bad acquisition but tbh I don't really think we need anyone in at this stage except our first and second round draft picks. O'Riordan and Newman should challenge for the spot Mills has vacated.
Down back I see Xavier as providing brilliant cover at both ends of the ground, one thing I have really been impressed with him has been his one touch marking, very nice hands. Plus he can really deliver the ball in well. I see him a classic late bloomer.
I like the notion of having two first rounders in 2017 if we can. Give the big list changes from this year time to settle, tie up the young talent with the spare Mitchell cash and then take a strong approach to the 2017 draft which is being viewed as a strong one.
In fact I wouldn't be against a long term strategy of always trying to have a future first rounder in the bag ((i.e. keep trading a current first rounder for a future one) as it just gives us that insurance that if we ever need to go to the trade table to address a glaring deficiency in our list then we have that capability without compromising our academy selections which will form the bedrock of our squad in years to come.Comment

Am I right in thinking that the system has changed for academies now, so that when we use a pick for points, it doesnt automatically assume a new position in the draft based on the points remaining, but instead goes to the back of the queue? Would this mean that if we have two top 10 picks (say, 7 and 9) but our academy kid is bid for at 5, then we would have to sacrifice both of our top 10 picks to get him?Comment

I'm not sure we are in the market for a KPF just yet provided we keep one S. Reid. Xav is doing a great job and we have Lance as backup. Plus there is a young kid by the name of Nick Blakey that will be draftable in 2018 which could co-incide with the back end of Buddy's contract.
Marshall's draft value seems to fluctuate greatly based who reports and when - he has been as high as 4 and low as 12 from what I have seen. The main criticism is that he hasn't blown a game apart yet and that he is a pick based on potential. I'd expect GWS to make an assessment on his value and move up the order to get a pick around that mark, maybe they'll just keep their Pick 7 and accept they'll lose him if Carlton take him at 5 (you'd assume the Suns at picks 4 and 6 would pass on him given their spine) Josh Battle and Patrick Kerr seem to be the other KPFs mentioned in despatches but seem to have settled as early second rounders
Tim English from WA is around that 6-7 mark which is kind of smack bang in the middle of the Freo and WCE picks but he is more of a ruckman I believe.
If we were to win the flag we'd have picks 18 and probably 38-39 based on priority picks. I'd expect a sweetener from Hawthorn on top of their future first rounder, either for the first round pick (18 to 15) or bringing our second rounder to the early 30s. If we were to trade Towers I'd be hoping we could get that second rounder upgraded even further. The 2016 draft is apparently pretty even so with our astute recruitment and strong development program I'd be very confident we'd get a couple of good kids with those two picks.Comment

In respect of your scenario of a kid that another club bid for at pick 5 we have to "fund" that matching bid with 1,502 points (1,878 x 80%). Pick 7 you mention is worth 1,644 points so that pick would be reduced to 142 points so my understanding is that that our pick 7 would get moved to pick 61 along of course with the draftee in the bag.
We'd still keep our Pick 9 in this caseComment

Re: watson.
I think he'd play as a forward for us. Replacing towers/mcglynn.
As far as did go , the fault lies mostly with the players. The code is very clear. They ignored it. I have no sympathy for them and will make drug references to them from the stands.

Why would you bring in Jobe? The next decade will be GWS dominance with their running out of hb and stoppages we need players will with endurance and speed to keep up. As for inside mid we had Parker 23 Heeney 20 Mills 19 and Hewett.
We do need to draft a KPD or trade someone in U22. Need a replacement for Reg two years left on his contract his last year may be similar to Teds. I like Melican but he seems too injury prone
