Why would we want Watson??? Would be crazy to happen and won't happen.

Officially he's no longer banned but he's on the injury list with a knee injury (the original injury was to the foot) with estimated return 'indefinite'.

How long was he contracted to the Swans?

I would have thought he'd have another year on his contract at least.
Why would he be delisted? He's only 23 and really didn't get a chance to show his wares considering he copped such a bad injury in round 1. Whilst our backline has been a revelation this year, we still don't have a heap of depth there and I wouldn't imagine he'd be on Mitchell type coin.

We got Talia for our 4th rounder this year which will be in the 70s, free basically. Dogs flicked him supposedly because he leaked gameday info to his Crows brother (AFL investigation cleared him) but I winder given his drug possession arrest that the Dogs knew more about him than they let on.

Got a cheap two year deal was my understanding. The decision to ban him from the club was probably three/four fold, he wasn't going to be fit for finals anyway, Aliir suddenly became the KPD we needed, the dastardly drugs stuff needed to be distanced from the playing group as they moved into the pointy end of the season, didn't want our game plan for the Crows to get to Adelaide :-)

Be very interesting to see what we now do with Talia, we either cut him adrift and wear the 12 months $ cost or he comes back into the fold with a big target on him to absolutely knuckle down and behave. We still don't know if he is any good as a player yet.

I'd imagine we're stuck with him but if anyone came in for him I'd suggest we'd be happy to get his salary off the books. The emergence of Aliir Allir and to a lesser extent Xav, who we all know can cover down back if required, plus Reid means we have plenty of KPD cover when you think about it.

If he's not costing us much, I reckon we will be delighted to have Talia on our books (albeit we would be more delighted if he hadn't drawn attention to himself for the wrong reasons).

Talia looked a good player early on against the magpies. I think with a big preseason and a stern talking to from the leadership group we can mould him into another good swans player

                  Here one from left field.

Ryan Burton from the Hawks: was rated by some as a potential #one draft pick or at least a top ten until a badly broken leg scared off all recruiter except the hawks, and that why he was so low in the draft.

If Mitchell goes to the Hawks, we get say two player, Breust and Burton, and send our first round to Gold Coast.

Gold Coast get two first round picks, we get two players who are first round picks, Hawks get two players, Mitchell and O'Meara

Burton 191cm, 90kgs, plays as a forward, but can move to the midfield if required.

Agree with this: Talia looks good!

He had time to reflect on his decisions and i totally expect him to be one of our best players next year.

Hey that's innovative and looks good on paper. But the problem is Bruest's money, supposedly contracted for more than Mitchell wants. The Hawks won't be getting O'Meara cheaply nor will they get Tom cheaply so the ball is very much in their court to give up a fair bit more than what they currently hold which is just pick 14 (15 after the Brisbane PP is announced) and a wantaway Brad Hill.

The talk about Mitchell going to Hawthorn is overwhelming but we're yet to hear a peep on the subject out of the Swans or Mitchell. My feeling is that either Tom will sign as soon as the new Salary Cap is announced or, he is indeed on his way to the Hawks, but as a list management decision by us, not just leaving due to the $ stumbling block. If it is the Hawks, then we will already be a fair way to agreeing on what the deal will be, cognicent of losing a gun mid to a rival. I think we are in control of what will happen and it will happen for a reason. Full faith in list management to get it right, only Biggs and Membrey appear wrong/doubtful list management decisions by us in recent times.

                        Pick 19: Ryan Burton - hawthornfc.com.au

Could we afford both Breust and Burton re sal cap ?

Burton was pick 19 and will be regarded next season on me thinks

Heeney, mills and jones will go thru the roof next contracts

Its a moot point, there's no way that the Hawks are trading Burton, rated extremely highly internally

Would have gone much higher in the draft but for concerns over a broken leg in a car accident

I'd love Breust but I suspect he's going further north if he is indeed leaving the Hawks

I can't see any scenario where we'd take a player for Mitchell as any like-for-like player would be on similar coin to Tom and money is the reason we won't be keeping him, either directly (i.e. we can't afford his salary) or indirectly (we need to save his salary to retain the likes of Heeney and Mills).

Can't see anything but a first round pick for Tom and maybe a makeweight like a Touhy thrown in via a three or four way trade

I think it was Paul Roos who said that you draft the best possible talent and trade for necessity.
While Bruest would be fantastic, we don't need him.

                              So where is the need?

I think we need a big bodied backman.

                              Our bigger backs:
                              Laidler 190cm 89kgs
                              Talia194/94
                              Aliir 193/94
                              Grundy 192/106*
                              XR 195/91
                              AJ 194/92

                              Compare:
                              Tom Hawkins 198/108
                              Rhys Stanley 200/98
                              Taylor Walker 194/98
                              Jeremy Cameron 193/96
                              Jonathan Patton 198/103
                              Tom Boyd 200/104

Every one of these is heavier or taller than our backs.

                              * Reg has been magnificent throughout his career. He is 30 years old and has 2(?) years left on his contract. He is the only back we have who can match it body to body on the bigger forwards. I think we need to find and develop a replacement ASAP.
X can go back and he has the height, but not the weight.
We could get someone on the weights, but I don't want to affect, e.g., Aliir's pace or agility.

I don't think we will cut Talia:
                              1. I don't think that's the Swans way. He'll get a chance to work his tail off;
                              2. He's one of our tallest;
                              3. He was pretty good before being injured - yes the sample size is very small.

AJ is, admittedly, wishful thinking, but he replaces Mills on the HBF, with Mills going to the wing. But he is said to be looking forward to the pre season.

Second, we may need a small forward - this is McGlynn's last or penultimate season. I think the perfect replacement is Jones, who is almost like for like. Jones has done well in the midfield, and also when he's gone forward. Otherwise I expect the thinking is more medium - Dawson, Towers, Robbo.

I agree with your sentiment about being a bigger bodied KPD short. Reg is great and I think Aliir will be elite and more than capable of taking a top forward very soon, if not already. But I looked at Rampe trying to compete with Cameron out at ANZ and whilst he battled manfully it was just such an uneven physical contest. We just manned up so badly on their massive forward line.

Plus we have been incredibly lucky with injuries.

I've monotonously come on here and said I'd like a future first rounder plus change for Mitchell but I do think it's more than possible we might use that first rounder to try for a gun KPD. Bu then again we'd be up against the same salary cap issues with an elite defender.

My preferred call would be for us to bite the bullet and make Sam Reid a permanent KPD next year. I'd be saying to him that he's playing for his career here if he wants a similar deal to be offered up and that he needs to make CHB his own. because I think Reid with his speed, agility and size can match up on these monsters. Also by the end of 2017 we'll now if Talia has worked out (unlikely) or if AJ is an option (hopefully)

Tempting as it is I'd like us to try and solve this issue "in house" - if we get to the end of 2017 an it's still an issue then we will have the picks and the cash to make a play for seriously good defender, at the moment we can't make that happen
