It seems to me that Funk and Wagnall's live on, as part of the sets of TV legal dramas. I mean, we're supposed to believe that those books on the lawyer's shelves are legal textbooks, but I reckon that at least some of them are Funk and Wagnall's.

I was wrong about not being able to trade future 1st rounders 2 years running. It is in fact 2 out of 4 years. I must be getting paranoid about he AFL doing us in.

I know, I'm someone who nearly always goes for the stuff up, rather than the conspiracy: but the current AFL administration, is really starting to erode that probably healthy frame of mind.

I do think it is fairly simple

Bringing in Gold Coast and GWS has absolutely hammered some other teams in the comp by starving them of talent

The pies etc have not been able to get their hands on enough picks / players and they don't see a compelling future for years ahead

I don't think even Eddie and the likes thought they would suffer so much for so long

It has created a nightmare politically with old firm clubs and the AFL

I would guess the Hawks are about to go thru similar pain

I've got them outside the finals next year. I think JOM is still a month away from starting running and can't see him making much of a contribution next year. They lost some outside run with Hiil, so teams can focus on Smith now. Can't expect Cyril to carry the team. And it only gets worse once Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson retire, which can't be far off. They've traded away all their draft picks and their first rounder for next year, so how do they rebuild, unless they've got a war chest to lure Fyfe as a FA. But it would have to be a deal to make Buddy's look puny or Freo will match it and Hawthorn don't have any picks or players to trade to them.

I think Collingwood will stay in the bottom six or seven for quite a while. They've got weaknesses everywhere and only come into the draft at pick 28 this year. They gave big contracts to Mayne and Wells which seem way over the top to where they are in their careers. Probably Bucks is done. And maybe Eddie will follow him out the door.


Gowswannies, I'd offfer Dean a one year extension at a modest salary. Maybe that's the one already offered and rejected. I see both Hiscox and Richards being delisted. The only other unsigned primary list player is Abe Davis and I think they are just waiting to see how much is left in the kitty before they finalise his contract.

X spent years on our list as a rookie with bugger-all money. He got elevated and earned a bit more, then he plays in a GF, so his manager probably thought that it isnt going to get any better than this - they need to strike while the iron is hot. Unfortunately, the other clubs dont see value in X, as they already have a few of his type of player. I guess he is now destined to play the understudy to other players unless he improves another 20% again.

Another example of a player manager looking to cash in on churning a player to another club for a quick commission. Blind Freddy could see he was like the boy with a full wheel barrow pushing up a hill; aint going to make it.

A sports writer on 'The Roar' said some weeks ago that this would not apply for academy clubs this year (because clubs took decisions last year based on the previous rules). I haven't seen this confirmed anywhere else but the way GWS has gone about accumulating picks suggests this is correct.

Or could it be that Collingwood have 2 potential father-son selections this year?
