That's a terrible result but can't fault the effort of the team in the last quarter.

I love how the umpires put the whistle away for most of the last quarter, bar a 50/50 at best call in the giants defensive 50 at a critical moment - there could of easily been 10 or 15 frees paid in the last part of the game, but they ignored the lot bar that one, where the player seemed to be looking for it - and on review it didn't even appear to be a free kick but just a good tackle from Rose.

Great game of footy, and so brave from an undermanned swans team, but so disappointing to fall just short. What a shame Newman couldn't cap off another impressive performance with the match winner with the kick that fell short.

And then there is Ted ..... so undeserving for his career to finish in the manner it probably has.

We had Jones as a first rounder. How many first round draft picks did they have??

Excellent effort, but I think Jones being stretchered off really crueled us. I hope we keep Newman. I'm not sure if anyone really screamed, 'Pick me for next week!' Maybe Foote.
Giants are really starting to wear out their welcome.

Definitely Finlayson. Elbow to the head, and then possibly a secondary impact when his head hit the ground.

Nic Newman wins the Andrew Ireland Medal (the NEAFL equivalent of the Norm Smith)

Thoroughly deserved - was outstanding in that last quarter in particular. If only he had another 10 metres in his tired legs late there!

We must try to keep hold of him, as surely with a good pre-season he will push hard for a place in the back 6 - maybe freeing up Mills to head to midfield?

So disappointed we couldn't win what would of been an epic flag. Without Nankervis and Laidler, that was an exceptional effort. Then with Jones going down and Leonardis - despite McAdam suggesting it 'wouldn't make a difference', I'd respectfully suggest it did.

                        Six.
And unless some of the toppies were from western Sydney, none of their players were from there.
(Just quietly, Towers is also a first rounder, even though he was taken at pick 22).

I was already there after the round 12 loss at Spotless.

Surprise, surprise, Newman BOG. Why oh why has he not had a senior debut?

We now have a genuine vacancy in the back half and this week he will be putting his feet under the desks of suitors and ask for a trade.

Assume Laidler and Nanks were withdrawn to cover for Mills and Tippo? Sounds like we wuz unlucky not to win.

Seeing some of the dribble from the plastic fans that have suddenly emerged from the factory over the past 24 hours has got me well and truly there. Was never a fan of the approach by the AFL (should have shuffled an excess Melbourne team out there), but now the arrogance is translating from their players to the fan base, that's enough for me. The next 5-10 years are going to be a testing time for the AFL - not sure how long the rest of the league will put up with them dominating the competition, which with their ever regenerating 'cheat code' list of players, they should do. First stop should be to remove the border area players from their 'academy' setup.

But the damage is already done - after they trade their substantially talented excess players this year, they'll probably have 4 or 5 1st round draft picks to fill their list up with again - around and around that mulberry bush we will go. That's before even thinking about their cherry picking of players from the border area that should be in the draft pool proper.

I hope the AFL enjoys what it sows...
