He wasnt having a laugh at the injury, just the situation in using a stretcher, that was obvious. But still didn't have to make a comment and felt like a troll. Baz likes fishing.

Seems the 'Barry bashers' are a bit confused ATM. If you all honestly think from his comment that he thought Gary's injury and pain were funny, then you are looking for things to be 'outraged' at......Barry can be an agitator, but I doubt he's a sadist.....

First Semi Final: Swans v Crows

It was perfectly clear that Barry was saying that if Rohan is able to play next week (and we all fervently hope that is so) then in Barry's view that would be funny/embarrassing after Gary had been stretchered off.

I've responded to that view twice. No it would not be funny or embarrassing. Gary was in intense pain and could not walk. He needed a stretcher. End of story.

        Let's all move on.

I really doubt barry thought Gary's injury was funny. I don't think anyone watching the game would have.

The first sentence isn't offensive or provocative.

I suspect that without those last two words,

many might have agreed with him.

But it's perhaps "embarrassing" got people offside and changed the context of "funny"

Why do people even respond to Barry in anger/outrage? If he says something interesting and worth debating, reply and add to the discussion. If he says something you find inflammatory, just don't respond. And he is big enough and bad enough to not need anyone to step in and defend him either!

I'm sorry Meg, you don't get it at all. Gary actually wanted to walk off, but was made to get on the stretcher because it had already arrived. Seems to me you would rather slate someone who annoys you than see the real point....now I'll move on.

Not so much defending him, I just get a bit annoyed when people misinterpret someone's comment and want to pick a fight......when it's all so unnecessary. Obviously my attempts to placate this situation have spectacularly backfired!!

For a player to come of the rookie list kick 20 something goals in the regular season and kick 6 goals in his two finals what a pick up.

?I?ve been working with Nick Davis and Bret Kirk every Tuesday and Thursday with my set shots and snaps. In 2005 I was barracking for them at the grand final.?

Man, I am still absolutely buzzing after last night.

Just a great team effort. Our bottom six stepped up and our leaders shone.

JPK ran himself into the ground, Parker played like a man possessed and Hanners was his normal self. I don't want Mitchell to leave but I'd prefer a couple more efforts like that the take him well and truly out of our price range if it wins us a flag.

Hewett I had concerns about come finals but he is ready, is there a more improved player than Lloyd? Benny McGylnn proved us all wrong and Isaac had his best game in red and white. Aliir made some of the clangers that I feared would creep in but he still did well and he seems to be so in the moment that they don't haunt him; what a great pair of hands he has. Buddy worked hard and took his goals well and Papley was great too, if you'd told him this year he is one game away from playing in an AFL GF he would have laughed in your face. Xav played his role well and he is a lovely kick of the footy

I could go on and on but last night was all that is good about our side and I was just so proud being a fan there. And to think we've done this whilst re-building the list and giving all these kids tgheir chance
Your enthusiasm has prompted me to go and try and watch the game a second time, but alas the replay hasn't been loaded up onto the AFL website yet :/

I really enjoyed last night too. So much more than the previous week! Crows played hard but fair. Everyone stepped up, especially those who didn't versus GWS. Felt like we controlled the game tempo nicely, you knew once we were 4-5 goals clear that the Crows were unlikely to get back.

Noticed Betts looked very dejected (or just tired?) at the end and there were long, warm embraces from multiple Swans players, wondered if there's some story there? A player I enjoy watching normally, but was happy to see little of last night thanks to his shadow Nick Smith

I really respect Adelaide as a footy club and they played hard but fair unlike the GWS Snipers

The great thing about us winning and the Hawks losing is I feel I can genuinely enjoy the rest of the finals. Obviously I'd prefer we win and my least favourite choice is GWS but each one of the clubs' winning has certain appeal though a loss to GWS would be really weird and painful

Thats exactly what my partner commented on Saturday night. Crows weren't dirty and played tough but fair. Compared to the dog act team of last week it was a breath of fresh air. Side Note: Go the Bulldogs

And while I briefly touch on the subject of the dearly departed Matt ( and I suspect he is still with us in some form ) in hindsight he was well ahead of the curve vis ? vis on the Mitchell subject.

If I recall, Matt wanted Mitchell traded because in Matt's eyes, there wasn't enough room in the side for so many extractors without electric pace, or something like that. Parker, Jack, Joey, Hanners & Tom couldn't all play in the same midfield, so some would languish in the twos & would be better moved on to utilise their trade value. Carlton were sniffing around Tom, he was being paid overs at the time for someone who hadn't played a lot of seniors, and he wasn't consistently racking up the numbers he does now.
Mitchell's predicted impending departure has far more to do with money. If rumour is true & he's been tabled $380k/year for 5 years, and he accepted it, I doubt many here would want to trade him. His form this year, averaging just under 28 disposals & the midfield cohesion has demonstrated that he can fit in the side despite the fleet footededhess (or lack thereof) of who plays around him. The problem lies in that Tom believes he's worth more than $380k/year (probably is) and other clubs will offer more than & $380k/year, so it's not Mitchell fitting in the side (as Matt suggested), Tom's fit in rather well to a frighteningly cohesive and elite midfield unit all season, rather it's fitting Tom in the salary cap.
