AA did pretty well , his acceleration from a standstill confuses em, his reach is phenomenal, his quick reactions to get his arms free, he is doing longer kicks now as his confidence grows .... His few errors were acceptable.

Aliir in my opinion had his most mistake riddled game of the year. However having played less than 10 games this is definitely excusebale. I agree he has so many good attributes and his first step after Playing on is astounding. Better for him to have made those mistakes in a winning final than a losing one. He can only learn from that game and be even better next week

We just have to accept the younger guys, like any player on the field, are going to make mistakes. What I like about Aliir is even when he makes mistakes, he doesn't go into his shell and seek to hide out on the field. He is doing great for a guy with such little experience in such a key role on the field, and will learn from his mistakes. There is so much to like about how he plays.

Yes, I think that this might be the first time that people are actually discussing Aliir's turnovers. Which to me, suggests that his disposal efficiency, so far in his ten match career, has been excellent. I think that I mentioned earlier in this thread, that I was enjoying seeing Adelaide bomb it, when Aliir was anywhere in the vicinity, because I had every confidence that the threat was going to be dealt with. Generally it was. And a lot of goals in the latter part of the season, have started with some quick and insightful rebounding from Aliir.

When opposition teams bomb long into their forwardline, I love the thought that Aliir, Laidler, Grundy or Rampe are potentially there to drop back & take an intercepting mark.

I would be definitely looking at Ted. He has the experience and skills and if he hadn't had that head knock earlier in the season he might still be in the team.
Could he play the same role he did when we played in Kardinia? Would that work again or would the Cats be able to adapt?
If he did play it could release either Rampe and/or Marsh to become the rebounders we are missing with Mills and, to a lesser extent McVeigh, being out injured.
Cunnigham in would be okay by me. If our leaders go hunting like they did against the Crows the whole team seemed to follow and Harry could use his speed to become that tenacious tackler we all want him to be.

a yngr brigade did make a few errors last night..Alir was a 50-50 for me...50 good 50 poor...hopefully a one off, but his laconic kicking style is an issue to be technical wish he would kick thorugh the ball and look for longer options other teams have seemed to pick up he kicks shorter
There are plenty of other Swans who are happy to kick long to a contest. I am happy for Shandy to keep hitting up targets, even if they are the shorter option.

Pity we can't add Mills to that group ATM. :-(

X Richards is already in the team playing the forward role that Ted played last time against Geelong. If Ted plays he has to play defence. Anyone who watched the ressies grand final would have seen Ted drop a regulation mark in the goal square which led to the Giants winning goal. It was a tragedy to watch mostly for teds sake. A fairytale return to the seniors for a grand final would be amazing but I think it's unlikely to be honest. Our defence has looked much more mobile with and attacking with the younger guys in there.

Neil Cordy reporting in the Daily Telegraph that Tippo will play in the PF! If accurate, then great news.

I recall before Teds first had knock he dropped a few easy marks.

As much as I'd love a final hurrah for Ted, he just never came back to form after that knock after the Hawks. Even in the NEAFL grand final last weekend he was shaky at times down back and dropped a critical mark (it was a tough one but one you'd expect him to take) that led to the winning goal for the plastics.

He will surely only get picked if heaven forbid Grundy or Aliir get injured. Sad to see him drop off so quick, but he is not the answer to the quandary we have.

I wonder if we might think about playing Tippo out of the goal square - a fair warning for such an approach should come from what we did to Geelong at Kardinia park, when they went quite tall.

It would be but who do we drop? Nankervis was great last night and it would be super cruel to drop him.

Could we go with Tippo playing the traditional CHF role and rotate Nanka and Sam through the ruck? Then we just need one defender, I'd be cautious with Mills and hope that Zak Jones is right but I fear he may not be. That leaves Harry C (eeek)

If we go like for like I'd replace Rohan with Towers and Jones for McVeigh and Mills for Harry Marsh should we get a full deck for the GF. If Tippo is right I guess you'd have to drop Nanka

Is it a forgone conclusion that its Tippo for Nankers? Naismith seems a complete klutz around the ground but a fine tap ruckman. Tippet and Nankervis might be a stronger combo overall.

Worth tippets jaw, maybe he will play more a permanent full forward role rather than ruck.

All we need to do is name Nick Davis, Geelong will crumble.

Tippett could just come in for Rohan and play stay at home full forward.

If he reproduces his performance at FF the last time he played a Prelim at the MCG, we'll be fronting up for another granny, guaranteed.
