I've just got back from South Melbourne markets after stocking up on some goodies for tomorrow. Plenty of red and white enthusiasm down at our spiritual home.

Now to make some sandwiches and head off to the GF parade with the whole family (five of us) decked in red and white.

Bit annoyed actually about the new route. Preferred the old one. But still worth the journey. Weather looks a bit suspect but I'm tipping lots of Swans and Dogs colours in town today. Should be a spectacle.

This is one of those moments I wish a Star Trek like transporter existed.

I am here, literally half a world away in another town called Sydney, a fraction of the size of the metropolis my beloved Swans call home. I am nervous and excited for this Grand Final but I wish that I could be there to truly feel the excitement of all the Swans faithful.

However, I do have my 84 year old father whom I introduced the game to who is willing to stay up with me to 4:30 am to watch this team we both care about so much. It has been a tradition to get together on Saturday mornings (or Sunday ) and watch the Swans game from that week. There is a somewhat funny term that is used by my wife and I for this activity - "Swannies and Dogs", so named because normally we cook and feast down on hot dogs while watching the games. Let's hope the real Swans feast on some Dogs on Saturday!!!

          Let's go Swannies!!

The team is meeting at the MCG on Sunday morning if we win and then flying to Sydney for a Sydney reception so there would be no time for a Lakeside Oval reception

I have a business in Canberra, and have to travel up a lot every year.
Most of the time I drive.
Only a couple of hours longer than flying if you add in the time to get to/from airports and waiting for planes etc.
Even better when you can make it a road trip with friends. Now that the Hume bypasses everything it's quicker between Sydney and Melbourne than it was.
What is it 8 hours now? Just get your driving stint out of the way early and sit in the back with some booze

Funny you should mention this, I meant to check RWO protocol for scarf adornment on the flight down. Ran with conventional neck drapage, hopefully no ill omens involved.

So, just out of idle curiosity, is that Sydney in Canada? If so, are you an expat Australian? Or did you choose the Swans because of the Sydney/ Sydney connection? Or even a story about Mike Pyke?

Yup, assistant coach there, but he was nice enough at a SA Swans supporter function recently. Talked (relatively) fondly about his time with the Swans (despite his new colors). Looks fit still (rides a lot!).

We are the Champions my friend, We'll keep on fighting till the end! Go Swannies! I'd like to say that this was one of the great Grand Finals. The Hawks were magnificent and the game could have gone either way right up until 50 seconds to go! There is no shame in losing one like this, it just makes a team more determined for the next one, just ask the Eagles 2005 4pt loss, 2006 1 pt win! These two teams were the best all year, the Crows had an easier draw than either the Swans or Hawks and both deserved to be in that 'one day in September'.

Yes, it is in Canada. No, I am not an ex-pat, I am born and raised here. Fell in love with the game originally when there was a weekly hour show on it in the late 80s. The primary reason for picking the Swans at the time was the name connection. The fact Mike Pyke eventually would be a Swan is a bonus. It also happened when my access to game became much greater.

Speaking of that great canadian, guess who was on our bus in to the city tonight - none other that big Canadian legend! His prediction was the swans by a couple of kicks!!!! You can still see how chuffed he is when people recognise him

To me that chance encounter is a good omen for tomorrow!!!
