So, given Barrett's blathering on 'Sliding Doors', are we looking at a deal that gets Tipp to Freo and Mummy back to the Swans?
The sooner biotechnology reaches the point where we can solder together one fully functional ruckman using parts from half a dozen of them the better.Comment

No thanks.
Whoever we create, their knees and ankles will be made of steel.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Having said that, I could see us possibly trying to get our hands on the Freo Pick 5 if we can. The Freo - GWS trade for Wilson could well make this a possibility along with the fact they will also need to trade for Matera if they want him on their list.
Just thinking that they could trade their pick 5 for our pick 14 and 32 (assume Lions get pick 19 as Rockliff compo). Using the points system as the basis we are giving up 1,742 to Freo's 1,878 so maybe we could also our pick 50 (273 points) for their pick 59 (158 points).
Freo would then prima facie have picks 14,32,41,56,78. Pick 41 would probably get Matera and they'd get change from 14 for Wilson probably an upgrade of their pick 32 to one of the GWS early second rounders. Freo get two WA boys back and two decent picks and they don't have to trade a future pick. As an aside and slightly OT I think Nathan Wilson is worth every bit of a late first rounder, any kid with pace who can hit a target on the run from 60m is an extremely valuable commodity and he will be an extremely good acquisition for Freo I believe, and a big loss for GWS.
We'd have 5,59,69 - we get Brander and a couple of speculators.Comment

Last year's draft had a lot of bolters as the season wore on: Taranto, McGrath, Logue and our 2 picks Florent and Hayward. I don't see that this year. It seems like more of the top picks from earlier on are dropping down the projected draft order than players staking a claim a the top of the draft pool. Maybe things will change after the all star game and the combine.
As for now, I would much rather have picks 14 and 15 than pick 2, even though their points value is about the same. I don't feel there is such a big gap between the very top of the draft and the mid teens. There's no big incentive to trade into the top end of this draft. It will be a big challenge for the recruiters this year as I'm sure there will be many good players in the draft, but a lot of duds as well.Comment

You are more than likely correct in saying that. My prediction either gets lost in the many crackpot suggestions or is revealed as prophetic.
What I will say is that we are in a very strong position to just sit tight and take our picks, quite good ones, unless a compelling opportunity appears. I would think that Brander as a NSW boy and the best KPP in the draft would be one we would target if the opportunity arose. We need a good KPP coming through. We'll just sit tight and let any offers come in.
Freo IMO will find it impossible to keep Pick 5 and get Matera and Wilson if they don't want to trade future picks. And I suspect they'll say to Rossy that he can horse trade as much as he likes but that 2018 picks are off limit because his credits in the bank are running out fast at the club.
Freo seem to have a very clear policy of trying to build a home grown list asap which you can understand. IF they also target Aliir to make it three WA boys onto their first team in 2018 then I think Pick 5 comes into play. I would not envisage us entertaining any offer for Aliir unless Pick 5 is part of the deal.
Of course it all depends on how hard we want to go for Brander too. I can't see him going 1-4 (Rayner, Uniacke, Dow and Cerra seem to be the choices there) but I don't think he'll go past the Pies.
Either way we enter this trade period in a position of strength, any deal will need to be a win for usComment

Last year saw 10 future picks 2017 first & second round picks traded plus a stack of 2016 picks. Think this year it will be even more prevalent because a number of teams are making ambitious plays for players with little currency so clever trading of picks by non involved teams like us may be on! In a weak draft, picks will lose value at an early stage, 14 & 31 are good picks, past the 30s it is apparently slim pickings.
Carlton picks 3, 38 linked to everyone in orange plus Lever. The trade ins won't be given away and 3 & 38 won't get the deals done
Freo picks 5, 40 linked to Wilson. 5 too high for Wilson
Pies picks 6, 36 as always linked to anyone who will go to them
Geelong picks 20, 33, 51 linked to Stringer, Ablett. Stringer needs a top 10 and GC might finally make a statement by not caving in to let Ablett go cheap.
These clubs will be desperate for some pick shuffling to either give them just currency or give them suitable currency for the proposed trade.Comment

Wilson is a massive loss for GWS. Would walk into the 22 at any club.He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

I think Stringer will probably go to Essendon with Pick 11 forming the plank of that deal with the bombers getting a little back in later rounds, he's a ratbag chav but he's worth more than 20 from Geelong. Gold Coast will be more interested in getting a player with about $300,000 being quoted as the amount of first year salary that the Cats will need to fund, Darcy Land is being heavily linked. The Cats have very little depth under 22 years and I do think they are digging a hole for themselves longer term by recruiting guys in their mid 20s and using their early picks.
Think the Pies will go to the draft this year, they need Brander as their spine needs some young talent.Comment
