Watts and Tippett. A couple of troubled and overpaid players who are probably on similar salaries.

It's interesting to note that Melbourne delisted Jake Spencer, so they really don't have a backup ruckman for the injury prone Max Gawn, so why not get another injury prone ruckman. According to Swans' conventional wisdom 2 injured ruckmen make 1 fit ruckman. Maybe Roos brought some of that logic with him to Melbourne.

With 4 ruckmen on our list, Tippett is just a list clogger. I would give him away for nothing if someone would pick up his contract. There must be a few things about his contract that we don't know about.

Even though I don't think that much of Jack Watts, there is a chance that he could come closer to reaching his potential at the Swans. He's got a lot of talent. It's just his work ethic that's the problem.

I would be happy to give up Tippett and our pick 31 for Watts, either directly to Melbourne or via a 3rd party. Then we could just focus on taking a midfielder with good skills and pace with our first pick. I'm leaning towards Lochie O'Brien or Ranga Ed Richards with our first pick.

My feeling is that it's not going to happen.

For the sake of argument, let's say we can get Jack Watts at his best.

He's a very skillful tall player, especially by foot. He's a very accurate goal kicker. He has a good tank and can play on the wing, not just up forward. Can also play in defence. With Reid and Rohan so injury prone, he might get a fair few games, even as a depth player. He also could let us try Rohan off half back. Buddy, Reid and Watts may seem a little too tall, but all are good athletic players, so it could work. We lost Talia, so adds to our KPP stocks and allows us to focus on a midfielder type player with our first pick in the draft.

I'm not saying we should do it, but a case can be made.

When fit Tippett is by far our best ruckman. His injuries seem outside his or his or his body's control. He stands on someone's foot, Mummy concusses him, Ward concussed him etc etc. I want him to keep playing just so we can hear Richo salivating about how tight his jumper is and how built he is!

Have been saying it for at least 2 years and now it appears the club may actually be on board too! Jack Watts could be a huge addition to our list if we can land him!

He is a supremely skilled tall with an excellent footy brain who I feel just needed to get away from the expectation that he's carried (and rightly so) for being a #1 pick in a Melbourne club.

It's fair to say he hasn't lived up to expectations as a key position match winning beast. But he has played some terrific football in patches the last few years in a somewhat struggling side. I think with the pressure off and being in a side with a Buddy Franklin and other All Australians he may flourish to become one also and be a key part of our tilt to premiership glory!

Where does he play? Well pretty much wherever we need him! He can play forward, wing, back and even pinch hit in the ruck! He's like another Sam Reid for mine but a better kick and decision maker but probably not quite as good a mark. If nothing else it gives us another realistic option in front of goals if Buddy or Reid are struggling they can move out and we can isolate him forward.

He could prove a real weapon on the the S.C.G. and he has also played a lot of good footy at the home of football where you need to be able to succeed on the biggest game of the year!

I would gladly off load Tippett for him as I feel he offers a lot more of what we need (skills, footy brains) and that's no disrespect to Kurt who no doubt could have been great for us if his body allowed it! We have 3 other capable ruckman so Kurt and his contract now need to be offloaded if possible and then we can welcome in big Jack to form a great one, two punch with buddy!

Come on Swans, make it happen!

I think Watts is worth a shot, use our second rounder along with our first for Gold Coast Saad. Lloyd,Dawson and Rohan can rotate more in the middle to allow Parker up forward. How quick would we suddenly become? Tower gets dropped for Watts who can pinch hit in he ruck when required. Sinclair, Watts,Buddy, Papley with rotation Parker, Rohan, Jack and Dawson as our forward line. Along with Reid who should play more defence though next year 30/70 split.

I can understand drafting another tall defender to develop, and if the club decides to give Pink another year, I'd like to see him trialled in defence as I think he's better suited to defence than forward.

We need depth in talls but I don't think you'd recruit Watts as depth. And he's not even that tall anyway. Dawson probably has similar attributes, though clearly he's not yet as accomplished as Watts.

I suspect a change of scenery would do him the world of good and if we were desperately crying out for a player like him, I'd be all for the Swans having a dip. Goodwin's comments make it very hard for Watts and Melbourne to stay together so, although he's contracted, Melbourne don't exactly have a strong hand at the negotiating table.

He is an elite kick and user of the ball, something we are still deficient in, although we have improved.

He's listed at 196cm so would be one of our tallest key position players Liz, in fact our tallest defender if played there (which I don't believe he would unless needed in crisis as loose a la Reid).

I believe he would be recruited to add another dimension to our forward line/midfield which we do need considering we all complain about us having no plan B when things seem to go wrong for us up there.

I would think that Buddy would relish the fact a player like Watts could be delivering to him from the wing or centre square and vice versa when Buddy decides to go for a run up the ground.

Jack has shown that he can be a very smart player and knows how to find space, especially over the back which suits our slingshot style of play at home. He could prove to be a real asset if we can harness his undoubted talent and a hopefully a real bargin!
