Hey Caj, it goes in cycles, in a few years 2 ruckman will be the way to go.

The game is getting faster, there's not much chance it will move back to 2 ruckman without some significant rule changes

I was at the game and thought Adelaide did very well in clearances with Jacobs v Griggs. Jacobs did tire in the last quarter which was when Nankervis stood out more. Thought Jacobs towelled up Toby in first half. Media gets carried away with everyone in the winning team.

Agreed that Jacobs was very good and did beat Nankervis in the first half, but that was because he was effective around the ground in addition to winning the hitouts. The fact that he was the superior tap ruckman didn't really benefit Adelaide.

Brilliant! I hope they sold an important role to him and he nominates us as his club of choice! I just cant see how he can't become a great player for us if his body holds up! He's at the right age to play his best footy in a mature team ready for another tilt at a flag!

Would be great if we could offload Tippett and get Watts. I also think Watts could play well under the right coaching staff. Roos in his latest book touted as much a few times. Remove the no 1 draft pick expectations, find the right position for him and watch him thrive.

Collingwood seem obsessed with attempting to lure older players in recent years rather than focusing on the draft. Can't imagine Watts going to the Pies if he wants to escape media scrutiny but Watts has been called a bit stupid and slow before.

Collingwood's list management has been a bit of a shambles in the last few years, no surprise they're having a big shake up.

Seems they throw their hat in the ring for anyone they can get without a clear plan, prime exhibit Chris Mayne 4yrs @ $500k/yr!

If Watts finally wakes up he will get out of Melbourne, going to the Pies is the worse move he could make, massive scrutiny and an unforgiving supporter base with a coach under pressure.

I'm for Watts, at the right price - say a 2nd round pick and salary of $500k for three years (which is not a high salary in the current market. My guess is Reid & Jones had to sign for that or a bit lower.)

Anyway, at his best, he gives us a few things we need - a solution to our second ruck position, which we still are in between on (two rucks or Towers), a good ball user going into forward 50, a mobile and reasonably paced player for his size, a good kick on goal, and a forward who can play a mix of deep and high.

I know the question mark is his consistency, but remove him from the pressure of Melbourne, give him some confidence, and tell him to play like he did through 2016 and part of this year before his injury, and you've got something very good.

He can play as a third tall/2nd ruck and with Bud, Reid, Hayward and Papley as the core of a forward line, we have a diverse mix.

I'm in two minds about this. He'd be a great fit for us. We need skilful and mobile players. But judging by his comments he really, really doesn't want to leave Melbourne. Of course all players say that they love their club but it seems extremely sincere with Watts, especially after he's gone through the crappy years with them. Given that he loves the club so much and his commitment has been an issue how will he perform at a club that he doesn't love as much as Melbourne?

I think he is worth the risk provided we don't have give up anything more than a second round pick and his salary isn't too extreme.

Why is it assumed that Watts wants to escape the media scrutiny? This is an external assumption which could very well be wrong.

I think that Watts could be a handy pickup provided the price is not too high. Let's see who he nominates as his preferred club first. If we don't get him it's hardly the end of the world.

As an aside comment: I?m so happy to support a club that behaves respectfully to its players and its coaching staff when they pursue opportunities elsewhere. I thought Goodwin?s belittling public comments about Watts were unnecessary and humiliating. And compare the Crows treatment of Lever with the Swans mature attitude to Tom Mitchell who left solely for a better offer (and good luck to him) after the Swans had carried him through a series of injuries early in his career (while reportedly paying him handsomely above the required rate for a drafted player - I have no idea if that is true).

And now it is reported that Dew has been successful for the Suns senior coaching position with a strong factor in the final decision being the strong endorsements from Longmire and Swans players, notably McVeigh. It is a a highly professional club that doesn?t block the paths of those offered better opportunities elsewhere.

Absolutely right. I'm very happy to belong to such a club and not one that publicly treats people leaving as either unwanted or traitorous - childish drivel.
