I am sorry to say I will agree with your comments. I strongly believe the AFL will do every thing in their power to stop us ever winning a GF. Now Rohan Connolly has tipped us we are doomed. Anyhow I still think Bulldogs are the team to beat. Had all those injuries last year and still won the flag (with a little help). We would need to be at our top of our game to have any chance this year.

The injuries during the year for Footscray probably led to their 7th position finish - didn't significantly effect the GF team

Yeah, that decision (or lack of) was one of the more distressing on the day. He deserves a good scolding.

I feel like they got caught up in the Bulldog fairytale rather than anything else. Should we make another GF, I am confident we won't see the same lopsided free kick count.

The public also seem to be impressed with our players. In the Herald Sun, Mark Robinson listed his top 50 players and the readers had a chance to have their say on who they thought should have been in the list. They had 4 of our players in the top 10:

            - Kennedy was 3rd
            - Franklin 5th
            - Hanners 6th
            - Parker 8th

It's actually worse than that. In the second quarter from memory one of their players effectively ran into one of our players on the ground and they pinged him for sliding. It should have been a free kick for us and the Parker incident should have also, yet they both went against us.

I'd give it a go if you didn't get fined $8,000 or whatever ridiculous amount it is these days for going on the field That call in particular still grates me - especially as plenty of fairypuppies fans swear black and blue that there was nothing wrong with what happened. Maybe under the 'AFL umpiring rules - GF 2016 edition', but certainly not under the interpretation in place for the rest of the season.

And of course, there was Hannebery being taken with a slide in the final quarter. Something the Bulldog player* may not have attempted, if they were being pinged for sliding earlier in the game.
                    * Not sure who it was, since I've tried to watch the replay, but I've never got past the third quarter.

Is going down the race classed as the field?

Special set of rules prevailed on GF day. Sliding into the legs and injured a player was 100% Ok on GF day. Also noticed that the AFL covered up the drug culture on the west coast eagle during 2005/2006 seasons. Yes the only side capable of giving the Swans a run for their money in those years was West coast and drug rules were completely ignored. Coincidence ? Maybe not if past experiences are anything to go by. As I said, they will do everything to stop Swans from winning the cup.

The Dogs won the flag from 7th last year. They should do it more easily this year from top four. It is up to the Swans and Giants to find the way to prevent it.
The Dogs had 12 players who averaged 7.5 or more contested possessions.
I thought the Swans owned this stat, but they only had 6.
It's the Dogs flag to lose.

I thought it was Easton Wood both times (i.e. including Kieren Jack). Happy to be corrected.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I think you may be right, it was Easton Wood. Who can forget the Kieran Jack incident. Wood sliding in and takes Jacks legs out and Jack is penalised for kicking in danger!!! Typical AFL corrupt lowlifes.

But last years loss was because of pathetic umpiring. That should have been our premiership. We were robbed and that makes it ten times more painful.
