    never ending story

I hate the fact I told everyone it would be another farcical lopsided umpiring display and I was right! 31 - 18. Guess I must have special clairvoyant skills. Wishin I never became a Swans member as I feel I am part of a very corrupt GIL M systems. My membership is just approving the corruption. Need to make this my last year. Anyhow Newman and Hayward can play and Newman will only get better ever week. Fiorent can play but does not have the endurance as yet. Hanners and parker where very average again. Not sure what is happening? Allir Allir was not 100% fit but he does have a touch of class. That free paid to Boyd was like watching an under 10s umpiring! Not looking forward to this year, but no doubt Gil M is very happy at the moment.

The second one concerns the deliberate decision against Mills. Here Mills is still a metre or so away from the ball. What is illuminating, is the fact that Picken already has his arms up, appealing for the deliberate. While that doesn't prove either way, if that was the correct decision or not, it does suggest that Picken did deliberately slow down, in order to milk a free. So, essentially, with that interpretation of the new rule, Picken has been awarded what was probably the game winning goal, as a reward for making no effort to get the ball. Not really sure if that's in the spirit of the game?
And neither do I think that it's in the spirit of the game, for players to beseech the umpires for a free, before any infringement has taken place.

This morning a commentator on the radio joked that Picken set up a deck chair and waited for the free. That's exactly what happened.

That's a good description of what happened. You see the same tactic sometimes with the deliberate OOB. An opposition player probably could get the ball but slows down to let it go over boundary while appealing for the free kick.

Picken pulling back and putting his hands out to get the deliberate rushed against Mills left me with little doubt that the Bulldogs have been pretty heavily trained on interpretations of free kicks.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I'm sick of people saying the bulldogs are 'clever' for the way they play. If Picken was 'clever' for milking a free by not chasing, then I would rather be stupid. The bulldogs with their 'cleverness' for working around the rules and milking free kicks, are actually ruining AFL as a sport. The fact that there was a contest where one player attacked the ball and was penalised for it and yet the one who literally stopped with his hands in the air before the other had even touched the ball, was rewarded, is a joke and a blight on the game.

Rules are designed to keep players safe and ensure FAIR play. This particular rule and the inept interpretation of it (and many others IMO) is majorly flawed, and that needs to change.

Well, except Mills didn't attack the ball he punched it over the line.

But I often share your frustration about the player attacking the ball being penalised with HTB free kicks.

If the Swans want to get a better run from the umpires, they should just watch what Hawthorn do. They can hold the ball, drop the ball, tackle a man without the ball and not only not give away a free kick, but actually win a free kick. They must know something we don't. I wonder what it is?

Just saw that Puopolo free in front of goal. Apparently laying a fair tackle on them will also result in a free kick. The umpires or the rules or both need to change.

The Umpiring has been poor the first 2 rounds regardless of which team, its outrageous the AFL is trying to influence the game (higher scoring) by "adjusting" the rules and how Umpires interpret those rules.

                      Cheers

Mills punching the ball through pretty much reflected how he played last night - no confidence - there were a couple of other occassions where he could have backed himself but hung off instead - hope its not second year blues especially after signing the big contract - last night shows how big a loss Rampe is as well

The AFL is an elite Aussie Rules Competition run by, guess who, the AFL Commission.

I thought Newman was ok, but we need him off half back. I would rather Lloyd be more of an on baller. LLoyd gets a lot of kicks deep in defence and his ability to find the footy seems wasted.

I was there . I felt that - a few apart - the team had been in different colours and worn masks , I would not have know that it was the Swannies.
