Well after the ridiculous free to Boyd against Aliir I posted and swore at the umpire. It's the heat of the moment.

Oh and I also booed because I was fed up with the dodgy umpiring!!!!

And did you see Harry's tackles on Friday night?

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Same thing to a different degree.

...and to think I was chastised for expressing my opinion of a no tolerance policy with drugs at the Swans (re Talia) in suggesting that he should be let go.

Personally I won't use offensive words at players online or elsewhere, but that's just because I don't want to be a tool by reacting online in anger.
I'll swear at the players to the TV - is that bad?
How about the umpires? Ok to swear about them or are they off limit?

Sadly, society is tolerant of any language.
The S word any time of the day on TV
        The F word after 8:30
Not sure we've manages to regularly televise the C word on FTA yet, but that will come.
These are our standards now, as defined by the ACMA, presumably in conjunction with a government department.

I'm not sure getting all heated about words that weren't spelled out is going to get very far....

You have made a compelling argument.
I was 50/50 with this one, but now agree that Mills should have been more aware of where his opponents were and been more careful.
The free kick for this offence seems over the top. Maybe from the 50m line would be fairer.

But I can see how this is against the new rule and penalised correctly.

There is an article in The Age this morning about bad umpiring in the St Kilda match last night. Give me a break, Victoria! It cost us a Premiership, but no one in Victoria gave a @@@@! It really pisses me off! Where's the article about the Swans!?

Here's an article from The Age that's worth a look.

Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans: Deliberate rushed behind call against Mills sparks confusion

I don't object to the AFL attempting to cut down the number of deliberate rushed behinds, but the worst aspect of it is easily fixed. It shouldn't be a free kick (which becomes a donation of 6 points); it should be a ballup 14 metres in, as was the rule for the trial matches.

So what did the AFL do? They "decided not to go ahead with the rule change just one week before the home-and-away season." Really? When the players and umpires are used to it? What a stupidly unimaginative failure to use their power the right way for once. The powers that be frustrate the life out of me.

Living in Victoria I see how they control the AFL and bad umpiring only happens to a Victorian side, never an interstate side!! Sides like the BULLDOGS get all those extra free kicks because they are disciplined, while we are just wild undisciplined rogues!

I can live with the Mills decision so long as that is how it is consistently applied throughout the season. Anyone willing to place a wager?

I, like nearly everyone on this thread am disillusioned over the absolute bias to the point I switched off before the last quarter , that is the first time I have ever done so...it really makes you sick when your team are busting their guts and being officiated out of the game...all I want and I am sure most want is an even playing field ,win, lose or draw...

Fully agree. I'm finding the game so frustrating to watch more n more as the years go by. The AFL want an open more high scoring game so manufacture rules that lead to this but we are not getting the high scoring due to high skill or change in tactics. We are getting it due to flimsy free kicks. Loved watching Ablett, Dunstall & Lockett kick the tone year after year but I loved it because they earnt it, it wasn't given to them.

A bunch of sheep saying stupid things & it snowballing because no one stopped to say this shouldn't be acceptable.
Actually, traditionally, it has been the social norm that decides whether something is acceptable or offensive. And since society is made up of a huge range of different individuals, there is always going to be discussion and conflict as to what is the societal norm.
The booing of Goodesy last year was an example of that. On one hand, you had a lot of backward looking people, inspired by all the professional media bigots, who claimed that there was nothing wrong with booing a high profile indigenous man, largely on the grounds that he was a high profile indigenous man. On the other hand, you had a wide range of people, saying that society has changed and that sort of casual racism is no longer acceptable.
In regards to booing of publicity seeking politicians at the footy, or somebody using an expletive to express their emotional state on a football forum, I see this as another area where society has been moving on. That is, many people are less concerned about the faux morality, that has been used to repress diversity and dissent. Or to put it another way, there has been a gradual undermining of the 'know you your place', 'holier than thou' pronouncements, by the traditionally powerful: the born wealthy, the clergy, etc.
In both examples, I think that society is moving in the right direction.

Agree. I think the AFL has done a good job with the rule changes. The tougher interpretation of the deliberate rule has let to more scoring. I like seeing teams score over 100 points as this leads to greater fan enjoyment and engagement. Many teams are scoring over 100 points which is great for the AFL game.

As long as the Mills rule is consistent then I don't have a problem.

I'm guessing that your part of the wager, is that it won't be consistently applied?
