So I can't be arsed to go back and find your thoughts but would love to hear them. The Zak Jones play on holding the ball decision - what the??! At the ground we were furious.

I agree with this. Too passive, only delivers decisively when not under pressure, which is rarely because he's quite slow.

I actually enjoyed that game. Don't feel we got shafted by the umps like we did last week and last year. We were on the wrong side of a close one but should have been 6-7 goals down at qtr time.

Foote and Sinclair the villains for me too. Foote made a terrible show of himself on the oreilly wing and turned it over for a goal. Just wasn't hard enough at the ball.

Sinclair likewise was moving like treacle with no intensity to close down the ball. I assumed he was cooked and his legs wouldn't get him there but he was tucking for the next 5 or so minutes. Marking aside, he's just not intense enough in our system.

Tonight was a game we should have won that says we'll likely struggle to have a real impact this year as we have two tough games to follow. Loads of key players to come back but the main thing is sadly experience for the years to come.

No doubt he played on, as in he stepped off his line. However, the umpire did not call play on until after the bloke standing the mark had tackled him. This is clear from the down the ground replay.

So in my opinion, it should have been a 50, but I'd have settled for the ump re-setting the mark.

One last comment - I know we are trying to move towards a faster moving game style, with more rapid movement of the ball.

But it doesn't need to be every time we try and move the ball out of defence, especially after a defensive mark when under pressure.

Over the first 3 games there must be I'd guess 30 instances where doing so has led us to end up in all sorts of trouble. Players need to pick and choose the time to do it so much more than they currently are, as it is hurting us badly. When it clicks, we will rip a team a new one as a result, but it is costing us goals at the moment - in a defence that is struggling as a collective group.

To that end...was Reid trying to give Buddy a goal for his 250th? His decision not take a likely certain goal was likely the worst decision of the game. Like an earlier poster alluded to...milestone games can be a real trap because they often lead to silly decisions in the name of honoring the milestone.

It totally struck me as a perfect opportunity for the umpire to turn it over to Collingwood, duly delivered and within seconds, Magpie goal. I was more than furious......

                    WOW.

I just don't see where all the Foote hate is coming from.
He gave more than most out there tonight and did some great things.
Made some mistakes, but that's going to happen.

Most of the young guys did well enough.

                    Sinclair is a worry.
Hanners & Parker are becoming worries.
Buddy obviously had an ordinary night.
                    Jones was great.
Allir is becoming Rohanesque in the excitement stakes.

We smack of Freo last year trying new things which aren't working.

I'm gonna label it as a hangover for the now, in hope that the team finds itself in the next couple of weeks.

he had kicked 7 goals 2 for the season from set shots at that time of the game. 20 m out straight in front. Very STUPID thing to do IMO.

What I think is that he absolutely reeked in the 2016 Grand Final (and the 2014 Grand Final for that matter) and he has stunk it up so far this season. I don't care about the stats - he had zero impact on the game tonight. And there was one point where he looked to be running towards a ball in open space in slow motion. Something is not right with him. I don't know if it is in his body or in his mind but at the moment he is a pale shadow of the warrior we'd grown used to.

The other big worry is Jack. His ball-handling has been atrocious all year.

I'd like to focus on a few positives tonight (particularly Newman and Heywood), but it is hard not to resent how two dreadful efforts from senior players (Jack's fluffed sitter of a chest mark, Reid's ludicrous brain-fart handball) basically cost us the match. Correct even just one of those two moments and we win. I just hope the young players don't try to learn very much from the senior guys.

I hope Florent is like Davis was. get the mark/ free in range and have the confidence to kick the goal. he looks very safe and confidant having a shot at goal and Reid should do the same if he is to make an impact.

I agree with this. Foote was a long way from setting the world on fire but it wasn't his job to do so. He had 6 tackles and 4 1%rs so I'd be surprised if he loses his spot. The problem was at the top end of the list, not the bottom end.

Saw that one. Pretty sure he's carrying an injury, he can barely run. Add to that Hanners cooked by half-time every game so far, Jack a shadow of himself, no McVeigh, no Heeney, Kennedy valiant as ever but perhaps adjusting to the new responsibilities and roles, it's clear where our current woes lie. Delivery out of midfield. There isn't any.

Worst first quarter I've seen in 5 years, lucky to get away with a point loss. I think there are just too many outs for the team to gel properly, no-one seems to know where anyone else is supposed to be. Can only hope it improves in a few games as some of them return.

My brother has the dumpire radio, usually he reports the decisions verbatim. That one came with a stream of swearing.
