Oops, I meant Smith, not Jack. Not sure how he became Jack, other than that they have both been average.

I would imagine we would like to play Tippett more forward than in the ruck, so is more likely to replace Sinclair than Naismith.

I don't think we can take a risk playing Macca until he can get through 5 reserves games without an injury. He's become too much of a risk. If by some miracle we make the finals, I can't see how we can play him with his recent soft tissue problems.

I would bring in Aliir for McVeigh and Rohan for Hayward. I like what Hayward is doing and believe he has a bright future, but we shouldn't burn him out this year. He tries hard, but is often brushed off by those bigger AFL bodies. I think Rohan can contribute more at this stage.

It's going to be a really hard call as to who Rampe should replace. The 3 top candidates are Marsh (most like for like replacement), Cunningham and Towers. All are doing well enough to hold their place in the side. We could go with only one ruckman in Tippett supported by Reid, Aliir and Towers, but I can't see this happening.

I'm not too concerned about positional likeness in changes as we have lots of flexibility with Lloyd and Mills able to play anywhere and can easily move out of the backline if we have a lot of defenders in the side. Newman can also play midfield. I think he's our best kick in specialist.

I'm in no hurry to bring rohan in. He needs the confidence of some BOG's in the NEAFL.
Tippet, I'd bring in for Nainsmith. Sorry old chap, but Sinclair offers more at this stage.
Rampe should come back in for McVeigh, and yes mcveigh needs a long spell in the NEAFL to prove fitness.
Allir can come back when one of the young pups looks running out of puff. Personally, I'd be looking at Talia first.

Very different players, who would you leave out for Talia?

Marsh seems have stalled in his development, not really putting in any games which are anything but ordinary.

Would like to keep Sinclair; actually showing some real promise which would be ruined by him being dropped to the seconds.

Melican is learning big time; did a very good job on Hansen; yes a few mistakes, but AA should know we have a replacement for him.

Would to debut another young player Jack Maibaum, he can play forward or back, let see what he can do.

Tippo should stay in the 2, watched Smoking Joe speed and marking ability, that the sort of big man, 200 cm we need.

My impression is that AA is a luxury to have when you have the stallwards of Reg, Rampe, Smith and few other workmen-like defenders. He'll come back when our defense is injury free.
If Rampe doesnt play this week, I would think Talia should come in for McVeigh. He is a the workman-like defender we are missing.

How much more workman-like can a defence get. Ours should be named The Proletariat 6. Talia could be a good replacement for Reg in due course. What we need is someone who can break out of our defence and transition into attack. I'm sick of seeing Jake Lloyd, eyes darting in every direction, giving little hand signals for someone to get on the move, then kicking to a contest which we usually lose. Aliir gets the ball and takes off. Without Rampe and Aliir our defence is more workmanlike than a sweatshop in Bangladesh.

                  I agree.

With Jones now spending most of his time in the midfield, we are in need of an attacking defender.....Aliir clearly fits the bill.

That's called leading from the front. As someone else noted, McVeigh can point well over 50 metres. One of the longest points in the AFL.

                      1) I think Tippo will replace Sinclair as much because of Naismith's potential rather than form. On form right now Sinclair is slightly ahead and improving.
                      2) Macca is actually a liability. Surely other players can learn to point as well as him. I think 5 games is too many but a couple in the NEAFL would be good.
                      3) I think Rampe will replace Marsh if he's fit, and I think he'll come straight in. This would give Horse so much more flexibility as Rampe can defend and distribute way better than Marsh can.
                      4) I have worried about how AA can get back into the team as a key defender as he's unlikely to displace Reg or Melican. But Rampe's ability means he could play 3 tall defenders and Rampe.

If you replace McVeigh / Marsh with Rampe / Aliir you end up much stronger both defensively and bringing the ball out of defence.

Dunno how anyone could suggest we leave out Melican, he's doing really well. We've won two in a row with minimal changes, so let's keep it that way. No changes unless injuries warrant it for mine. If Macca is out, and Rampe is good to go, then he's a natural in. I can see merit in Tippett coming in but they might want to give him a second run in the twos, if not, structure suggests it'd be Sinclair who makes way.

Just watched the replay and I reckon Marsh was good. He sits in the hole 30 metres out and reads the play very well. He is a real scrapper when the ball hits the ground. He is hard and works his backside off. Would be very stiff to miss out. Tippett comes in and sits in the goal square to let Reid roam the ground. Harry C was ok but he will probably miss out. This is going to be a tough game. Do we risk bringing in someone who is under done? Maybe Rampe only.

I'd keep the changes to a minimum but the following should improve the team

                            * Rampe in for McVeigh
                            * Rohan in for Hayward (rested/managed not that the kid has done a lot wrong)
                            * Tippett in for either of Sinclair or Naismith

With K. Jack also to come back in when he has regained fitness we are really looking good for depth right now. I also think Robbo and Aliir are also probably in our best 22, probably for Marsh and Melican but I'd keep them in the NEAFL for at least another week.

Based on my changes we'd have Florent, Hayward, Sinclair/Naismith, Aliir, Jack, Robbo and McVeigh out of the selected 22 which makes you realise just how down to bare bones we were at the start of the season

Maybe with tagging back in we should use Harry C in that role ?
His best games in my eyes were when he shut down Booma Harvey then Stephen Hill a few weeks apart, why he hasn't been used in that role since is anyone guess
