Richmond has pretty much made the Granny as far as I'm concerned. Dont rate Port, WCE or GWS at the moment

Lived there for a year, in swan st Richmond n would have to agree 100%. Victorians bang on about Sydney supporters knowing nothing about the game but when it comes to the NATIONAL competition they would have to be the most illiterate bunch going around. Not surprised when you listen to the garbage they get fed by the Melbourne media on a regular basis.Comment

Geez I was just thinking (yeah it hurt- a lot!!! ????????) there is still a possibility that it could be Swans v GWS - but also it could be an all South Australian affair too - imagine if that happened ??? Port Adelaide are flying under the radar. The media hype now and that Dusty is is bigger than Jesus (so the tigers faithful and some media would have you believe) is just going to be mind numbingly vile!! Thank god I live in Sydney!! And another thing!!! Today you have the Swans at the SCG we have 49000 roughly attending - there is an NRL match on next door as well they will be lucky to get 20000 (and that's between 2 Sydney sides - and they say NRL is the more popular??)Comment

Me neither. I think that we can beat Geelong at the MCG. It should come down to us or Adelaide. Richmond would be fearful of playing Adelaide and would Definately prefer us I would have thought.Comment

Yes, Richmond supporters are a different breed. They're extremely serious and dour but you have to give them their due - they've stuck. For a team that's had little success in recent years, Richmond's membership and crowds have stayed strong. Even Collingwood's crowds dip sharply when they're losing. I don't particularly like Richmond but you've got to sort of admire them. And if you look at the 2017 free kick differential I posted in the General Footy forum, you can see they've got where they are now on their own. Not like the Fairypuppies!Comment

As an old South fan, lived in Melbourne all my life. Great place to live but it is an interesting perspective footy wise as a follower of an interstate team. Some fans are even handed but the Melbourne footy media in general often clueless about teams outside Vic borders.Comment

I can only assume that you are from Victoria. I know you might think it a bit upity for ""interstaters" to dare a raise an opinion, especially supporter s from a former Victorian club, but we are a Sydney club first and foremost. More members and fans reside in sydney. The AFL is run by Victorians for Victorians. Until that changes, or you go off and support a Victorian club (I hear tigers have a bandwagon to join), you'll just have to put up with it.Comment

Stats back you up Barry but can't help thinking if we win today we can get over Cats. They have won two of their last nine finals I believe and we play the MC G better.Comment

No doubt we can beat the Cats (which doesn't mean we're guaranteed to, just that it's entirely possible). Regardless of the Cats' recent finals record, I think we're a better, more balanced team and have shown more consistent form over the last three months of the season. Our forward line is better than theirs (by some margin) and our midfield bats deeper (even if it lacks a Dangerfield). Both sides have good defences but while their defence can break even with our forward line, I think our defence matches up even more strongly against their forward line.Comment

What a day! I am very excited about tonight. My young son and I just touched down from Melbourne and, apart from the building nervousness, we are looking forward to a great battle (in the first half - I would be happy if we kicked away after that).
Geelong were dreadful last night. They did not seem to have any system moving the ball forward. Harry Taylor seemed out of place in the forward arc during the thrust of finals pressure. Maybe he needs to start back to work himself into the game before switching into attack, if the experiment is to continue. Richmond's pressure was intense though. Perhaps that was the sole cause of Geelong's problems.
It is a strange to say really, but finals always seem so final. There are only four games, after one week off - and then they happen so fast. Everyone will write off Geelong and GWS, but a lot can happen in a week. Of course our game is very final for the loser.

Perhaps you and I actually follow different teams now. I support a football club that is inclusive and proud of its heritage. It is not fixated on singularities. I don't start supporting another team from the state in which I live (Victoria), or belong (I am a New South Welshman), if my club is shunted out of the finals. I leave that sort of parochialism to state premiers, local newspapers and other ideologues. The AFL is a club competition, after all, not a state of origin tournament
But that's the point, I support a team. The Swans could move to Saturn & I'd be supporting the Saturn Swans. Or if, goodness forbid, they become extinct, I'll likely support no one. I'd still follow footy, but probably wouldn't support another team.
If the Swans bow out of the finals before the big dance or don't make the finals, I get back to working my weekends and paying vague attention to what's happening in the AFL world and trying to get home from work on Grand Final day in time to inattentively watch 2 teams I care little about on TV slog it out at the MCG, while trying to find Swans articles to read in the grand final footy record, eating a hot pie from the comfort of my couch.Comment

Yeah, it's funny. I am a Victorian, living in SA (sadly, soon I'll have lived longer in SA than I did in Vic, but I'll always be a Victorian)) supporting a Sydney team (people in SA often find this concept difficult to grasp ... or why I don't just support a SA team).
