Kurt Tippett's potential inclusion still up in the air as Match Committee meets to determine who'll face the Tigers.

Hope Tippett gets a couple more weeks on the sidelines, kicks a couple of bags in the NEAFL and comes back in form. Not ready to come back yet

Luke McManus wrote a bonus preview of the match - Hot Topics: Taming the Tigers - sydneyswans.com.au - but it's unfortunate he doesn't write better.

The match up I'm most looking forward to is Naismith-Nankervis - should be a cracker with both having a lot to prove. Then again, both should be focused on the main game and playing their role not boosting their egos.

I think I would like to see Dawson or Rohan come in for a defender, most likely Marsh. I would possibly prefer to see Dawson chosen ahead of Rohan to reward his recent excellent form but, as usual, I will trust the match committee to make the right call. It's a crucial game and we need to select the team that gives us the most chance of winning.

I don't really want to see odds, but I'm curious who is favoured to win the match. The bookies are often the best judges.

Just checked: the Swans are favoured to beat the Tigers - but not heavily so.

I really like Nankervis and hope he has a fantastic career. That being said I hope Naismith towels him up on Saturday

It would be nice if no coach in the competition had a remedy to man on man defence......but they do

The ability to switch between zoning off certain areas of the field and man on man is the art not just to shut down attack but also to reset and counter attack

I find this incredible. The tigers are about 6 spots higher than us on the ladder, playing at home, and have a good record against us.
How could we possibly be favoured ?

It's a nice vote of confidence for Edwards but why would we choose who to elevate now if we are not going to play him? Is he a chance for this weekend? Why would we pick him ahead of, say, Dawson and Rohan?

That is certainly the case this year.

The have the lowest uncontested possessions as a percentage of total possessions in 2017 at 58% of total possessions. The league average is 63%
Their game plan has changed from 2016 where 63% of total possessions were uncontested. The league average was 62%

Whats interesting is Richmond's total possession count is currently the second lowest in the league, just above Brisbanes, so they dont get the footy much. They were similar last year. The 4th lowest ahead of Brisbane, Gold Coast and Port, who had shockers of years.

They also currently have the 3rd highest clanger count. So not only do they not get the footy much, but when they do they give it up more than anyone.
I cant see how a low possession high turnover game results in winning scores.

What does this tell us about our winning chances? Probably nothing.

Yes that did baffle me on my first look at their stats. However what really stands out about them is their excellent defensive stats, particularly limiting teams from scoring when they enter Richmond's defensive 50.

In addition, as mentioned previously they are very direct. Despite having such low disposal numbers, they average the 3rd most Inside 50s in the AFL.

On the contrary it's smart since Tigers only have one tall forward.

...surprising Marsh? over Melican. Richmond don't have the tallest line but still.. Wait and see I guess.
