I just watched it again, the 50 was there. Towers moves away as he is required to do, but he breaks his line and feigns to go in, before heading back out (and this is the moment that the umpire blows his whistle).
Essentially, he presented himself to make a football move, which he cannot do in the restricted zone. Had he stayed true to his line he would not have penalised.

Exactly. But like I said it's more his regular brain fades that's costly. Has the tools to be good player but appears to not have the mental capacity. And with any top line sport if you can't produce physically and mentally you do not last. Has all the physical capabilities but lacks on the mental side.I just watched it again, the 50 was there. Titus O'Reilly said this re: the Crows/Hawks game, but it could equally be applied to the Swans/Ess game: "The game was also one of many affected by the ridiculousness that is the score review, or as I like to call them 'Technology Assisted Guesses'.Well.
Wasn't that a bit exciting?
I really feel sorry for the THREE ROWS of people in front of us who left with five minutes to go.
That behind call on Buddy's goal was the worst decision in umpiring history.
The umpires clearly don't like us. They think we don't know the rules.
I swear, the rovers on Mars send back better pictures than the AFL's goal review system." He's so 'in tune' is our Titus.....

You'd think if they could use a high speed/high def camera at the tennis and on Mythbusters (neither of which would have the same revenue generating capacity of the AFL), Gill the Dill could get that technology for our game. Perhaps 5% of the 20% player pay rise could have gone toward improving the game?Titus O'Reilly said this re: the Crows/Hawks game, but it could equally be applied to the Swans/Ess game: "The game was also one of many affected by the ridiculousness that is the score review, or as I like to call them 'Technology Assisted Guesses'.

It's not like he wasn't "trying" to kick the goals... it was a night of the yips... 20 team behinds equates to 120 potential lost points in my books. We should have wiped the floor and doubled our percentage.
He'll get his form back.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

The problem with the 2 goal reviews was that it wasn't clear whether the ball had fully crossed the line before it was touched. And "the line" includes the goal post padding. I can't tell with Jack's one but Buddy's definitely looked like it was a goal. But also the goal umpire's initial call was touched for both so because it wasn't clear it would have been umpires call. Surely there is technology that can display a line between the posts to make it clear??Comment
