It was to be expected we'd be someway back this year, given our slightly more modest H&A season but, surprisingly, we're still right up there. I haven't added up every club's aggregate scores but I did look at the top 4 finishers at the end of the H&A. Adelaide polled the most votes (90 by my count but I could be out one or two as I did it quickly in my head) and the Swans were second on 88. By comparison, the Giants polled 81, Geelong 80 and Richmond 84.

So we might complain about perceived umpiring bias in games, but it seems the umps do notice our good players slightly out of proportion to performance - though if you take percentage as a proxy measure for how much games are dominated, we could be expected to be in the top handful of teams.

In general, where the Swans comfortably won games, the majority (or all) of the six votes went to Swans players. In contrast, Swans players picked up votes in games where we were soundly beaten on the scoreboard, including a 1+2 in the first Dogs game, a 2 to Kennedy against West Coast, and a BOG to Franklin in the round 1 loss to Port. (Having said that, the team got absolutely no votes against Collingwood, despite only losing by a single vote.)
Some of the voting is a bit strange. Love Josh Kennedy but he got 3 votes when we beat Tigers at MCG. Had a great last quarter but very quiet before that. Some of Buddy's votes a bit perplexing. Name players get benefit of doubt- maybe they've earned it. Not sure how many votes Jake Lloyd got.

        Wow.
Imagine if we had turned up for the first six rounds.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Yes, Ablett in 2009 was the last Brownlow medalist to win the premiership in the same year. There's actually been a few this century. Bartel in 2007, Black in 2002 and Akermanis in 2001.

It's a pretty astonishing ride to superstar.
I'm from Castlemaine (the town IS a little excited at the moment!) and my youngest daughter went to school with Dusty. She moved to Melbourne years later and bumped into him one day and they had a coffee. He tried to crack onto her with the invite back to his place but she turned him down. She was dating a 'future' millionaire at the time (who she's not with anymore....dammit!) and she did the right thing and good on her.......but I guess you can't say Dusty's not trying!

We were equal first in the club aggregate with the Crows......88 votes each. Pretty good for an 0-6 start!
