Considering the turnover and who has been brought in, was the clean out by design?
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

I get the feeling it may have been although Dew going was no certainty.

Cox with four years assistanting under his belt is a good pick up and I believe Cats were after him as well.

You know the only reason Dean came over from the west is because he saw so much potential in Sinclair he couldn't let it go.

                      Big Cox.
Can't wait to say that to his face.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

We frequently get out-coached by the good coaches and our forward structure doesn't seem to be working. Although I would have thought that the bulk of that responsibility would fall on Horses shoulders, injecting some new blood can only improve this. The logical coaching positions will be; SJ - Forward coach, Kirky - midfield coach and Tadgh/Josh/Rhyce? - back coach.

I think we do need that crap. Our players, supporters and club play too nice. It's time we got a little &%^ into us.

Francou gone back to SA. Shaw will be backs coach, Kirkie mids, Stevie forwards and now we add Dean Cox to the ranks. Interesting changes but I think new blood is very good. Turning over the assistants actually won the Hawks 3 in a row.

I agree re the agro. We need to find some bastard. some of our players naturally have it like Parks, Big Sammy, Reg, Heens, Millsie, Newman, Paps and Jonsie but most of our players are a bit Vanilla. I think Jack Maibaum has it and so do young blokes like Fish, Sam Murray, Ronke, AJ, O'Riordan & even young Toby Pink have some mongrel. Hayward sticks up for himself but is a bit on the light side yet. I haven't mentioned the Big Bud as yet but we all know he is both aggressive and super talented. bity by bit that mongrel is creeping into our ranks.

I think the more successful coaching staff we have the more an attitude change will happen. winning the big one is about creating a culture not only of winning but of belief that we are the best and never give in until we prove we are. I think Stevie, Tadgh, Dean Cox, Rhyce are all great additions because they come from a culture of success.

Parker to the forward line is hardly versatility. Easily beaten one on one. Yes can take a mark but limited forward pressure. We can rotate the likes of Papley through the midfield but are the likes of Lloyd and Hanners versatile? No. Reid goes back for the last 5 minutes of a quarter but very questionable as to any longer. Rohan the enigma; has proved, regardless of his perfect build as a utility, that he has no versatility. So from my view it becomes a list management thing as to why we couldn't change it up in the semi. Maybe this why, apart from 2016 (finals injuries), we haven't been able to pull of another premiership. Good enough to finish top four in the normal season.

Look at Dangerfield to FF. Worked one off against us but failed miserably against Adelaide. Now that was poor coaching because that was telegraphed all week leading up to the game, and Adelaide was ready for him.

Richmond has a very very good blend of mid sized players who can switch roles. They will be hard to beat, big time, next year.

We could not change it up as you put it in the Cats final because of our poor selection. We did not select Melican against a side that had a plethora of talls. We were far too short. The player versatility had absolutely nothing to do with it. We were not just poor we were a disgrace. Having said that I think it was poor coaching and build up not to have a training session in the wet as rain had been forecast in Melbourne for the whole week. Stupid management both ways.

As to Lloyd not being versatile, what a joke. He plays wing, HB, has played HF and centre bounces and still does occasionally. We are pretty versatile, as versatile as any other side. Parker has kicked 5 in a match and hardly ever gets beaten in a marking contest. This year he was recovering from an operation in the first half of the season.

As to why Dangerfield got away from us look at the block outs he got from the big guys. We had no player to stop that as we didn't play Melican. Stupid. Rampe was not able to go with him because he was getting blocked or because every time he even bodied him Danger got a free. Even the commentators said that the majority of Danger's frees would have been play on the week before. But because it was Danger...Cats just too good on the day because we did not prepare well.

Richmond do not have a good blend that can change their roles. Thair small forward line is full of just that, small forwards. It was proven in some games last year when they had to change a few roles that most don't have the tank for the midfield and are not necessarily mids. I think Hardwick's strategy will get found out next year.

Fresh blood was needed but that much makes me nervous given the limited coaching experience of the replacements.

Think we need to recruit a heavyweight (not physically!), potentially level 4 accredited, and tactically very astute coach (or possibly two) to replace Dew.

Hawthorn cleaned out every year they won premierships. some of their assistants went to coach their own sides and others went to other sides as assistants. No matter what the Hawks managed to improve every year. I think a good clean out is like a garage sale really. you get rid of the stuff you no longer use because it has past it's use by date and with the money you get from the sale you buy new useful stuff.

                              I think this will be a wonderful thing for our club. We have been too predictable for too long and now with some change we can start to change our game plan. Let's see what these new appointments bring to the table;

Rhyce Shaw; Rhyce coached the Reserves to two straight losses in grand finals. I think he should have won both but... Especially the last one but several players let him down, one being Tippett. Rhyce proved he could gauge a situation and make instant decisions and then change the game plan after half time if the one being played was not working. Our Seniors staff seemed incapable of doing this. he will be a great benefit ti the Senior Coaching Panel.

Dean Cox; As soon as Cox started coaching the rucks at West coach the improvement was palpable. From there he moved into an assistant coaching position and immediately the West Coast improved. Apparently, according to several well known real footy experts this bloke has a very good handle on strategy.

Stevie Johnson; Stevie has improved the way Greene, Patton and Cameron go about their forward work. He also worked with Devon Smith when he came back from injury and saw seen in many games making sure smith got to the right position as the young bloke was a bit rusty. Word is he has an incredible footy brain and can impart knowledge very well.

Add in Kirkie and you have a pretty good mix. The one thing they all have in common is they all played in premierships.

And they are coaching in the positions they played, assuming Cox will take on the rucks.
