If we had kept him and shipped off Naismith to Richmond instead, people would now be apoplectic about how he was dropping it down Martin and Cotchin's throat rather than over-blowing the Nankervis reality of making "an honest contest". (a poor man's Sinclair)
Yeh i can't understand the yearning for Membrey.... he has yet to really show he can do it against anyone but the bang average teams in the competition.

A bit of an aside, but can someone explain to me the apparently wide-acceptance of AFLers, professional athletes, "requesting" trades (to Victoria, mainly) because they want to "go home" or are "homesick"? This, to me, is lunacy. The moment you become a professional athlete, I would think you should play (and play hard) for whomever you are contacted to play for. You are an adult and I don't care if you are homesick. Now I understand (and support) someone like Hanneberry moving on because it benefits both sides and sometimes a player needs fresh start. But it seems every year, more and more young guys, with years left in their contracts, are demanding trades to "go home". Am I missing something here? It seems to me that teams need to learn to say "no" and demand the professionals be professionals. I understand they may leave when their contracts expire, but it frequently appears like the lunatics are running the asylum.

Just heard Chris Pelchan on SEN talking about the Swans list management re Hannebery/Rohan & their cap, but he to also mentioned the speculation of Parker wanting to return to Victoria which he said the club can't ill afford to lose. Soon after I heard a Collingwood supporter ring up suggesting whether a swap of Darcy Moore for Parker could get done!!!!!. It's like Parker leaving is already a formality! The silly season certainly has started & only going to worse, as the club will be very active this trading season that's for sure.

P.S. Tom Harley will be on SEN with Sam Mclure after 6pm tonight, should be interesting with all this speculation going around.

Couldnt agree more U.S. Swan. Players are running the show. The "Go home" is just BS thought. For a start they are adults and done need mummy to do their washing, and secondly the "go home to victoria" is just because there are a lot more teams to go to in victoria.
Plenty of examples of players wanting to go home, then going to another state. Tippet was going home to brisbane before we snapped him up.

But with the lunacy of free agency, players dictate where they want to go. Clubs get no say. Bad policy.

You can add Jared Polec to that list. Left Brisbane citing needing go to back home to Adelaide & now on verge going to Victoria (Nth Melb). Exposes this need to return home for what is $$$$$$$$

Free agency has turned out to be the greatest list building sham for Vic based clubs, an easy way to pick up high draft picks very cheaply.....if a young gun gets 'homesick' at their non Vic club, they use free agency to run off home......back to Victoria where there are any number of already strong clubs waiting to 'steal' them and further strengthen their own clubs. The AFLPA have a lot to answer for as 'free agency' goes a long way to neutralising many equalisation measures that have been introduced......at least Hanners has given us eight years, including his best years.

Parker is 25...contacted until 2021...and not falling apart like Hanneberry. I don't buy any of this. He has no leverage.

Parker would nearly be the last player I would trade away. I think this is just journo bull@@@@.

Even if it was true, the Swans must refuse. At some point, you need to tell a player that they are going to live up to the terms of the contract, like it or not. It's not just about keeping the player...it's also about preventing another club you are competing with from getting better in the process. It's also about drawing a line in the sand to all the other players in the club. I am reminded of when Barry Sanders tried to pull this on the Detroit Lions after he signed a five year deal. The Lions held firm, Sanders was forced to retire. It sucked (as he is still my favorite of all time), but nobody ever pulled that on the Lions again and it cost Barry his place in the record books. When Parker's contact expires, he will be a much older 28...and the Swans simply can't lose another top midfielder.

BTW, if anyone noticed, a former Swans prospect, Michael Dickson, made a stunning debut as the Seattle Seahawks punter and booted one 70 yards!

I don't think Polec is a good example. He is currently out of contract and so is within his rights to look around. Another club has offered him a significantly larger contract than his current club. He's not a free agent, so North (or whoever else) will need to trade for him. I don't see the big deal with this. He's not trying to pretend he's not chasing the money.

We held our position on Ryan O'Keefe many years ago when he wanted out - that worked out well for us

And I’ve read that his partner is from Victoria.
