It would be expensive, but the club should try to recruit Stephen A. Smith from ESPN to run the media department. It doesn't matter that he probably doesn't know a thing about AFL. I love the way he works with LaVar Ball. The man knows how to do a sports interview. I would go so far to say he's the Buddy Franklin of sports commentary. The Swans media performances are boring and obfuscatory. It needs a shot of adrenaline.

You can see all us diehards are getting twitchy for the start of the season. Leveling criticism at the media department for not reporting on an intra club - spare me.

Its the first hitout of the season for most - I can give you the report without even watching it :
      1. Everyone was a little rusty and play wasnt very fluid
      2. Younger players A,b,c and D looked fit and have bulked up over the off season and expecting vast improvement this year
      3. A number of older players watched on as they are still getting over post season ops, niggles etc.
      4. It was HOT
      5. Players e,f and g look as if they will go to another level this year
      6. Players h,i ,j were their usual consistent selves
      7. Player k was surprisingly absent and player l just did laps despite not looking injured.
      8. PLayer l was looking a little underdone.

Done - add in the necessary players

Did anyone appear to have been training down the house?

That wasn't missing a key news piece. It was inventing something out of thin air.
No I actually read a piece that said there would be an intra club on the Friday. Not the game against GWS. Can't remember where I saw it now. But it was in an article

Huh? There wasn't an intra-club held last Friday evening, which is what I was confused about.

                  Hi,

In terms of internal trial games, the swans have had about 4. They are on a Friday morning and go for about 80 Mins

Who has shined at your team's intra-club match?

                    Sydney

?The Swans were forced to battle temperatures in excess of 40 degrees, but Sam Reid was the story here with a pair of goals in an impressive showing.?

I think Billericay has correctly interpreted the situation that the club has chosen to make the INTRA-club low key and instead promote the INTER-club with GWS for whatever reason. But this doesn't mean it didn't happen. And this doesn't mean we shouldn't be disappointed; and that the output of the Swans media department hasn't been dismal (quite possibly due to staff turnover or whatever). Given that we like to spruik having the largest number of followers of any AFL club, it would be good to see the club set higher standards for itself in this regard and give an account when it is unable to live up to them for whatever reason. I don't blame the individuals in the media section, it is the club's responsibility. I think they just have other priorities. Which leads me to wonder where we, as fans, fit in the pecking order of the club's priorities among sponsors, AFL, players, broadcasters, bean counters etc. - who do they most want to keep happy? I agree with Bloodspirit and I was also left frustrated with the club after Buddy's recent mention of the intra-club match as it was the only mention of it by anyone at the club. It was a casual reference to a practice game that many fans would have been interested in (its why so many have turned up to the intra-club match at Henson over the past few years). Simple questions like who played, and on who, how did the first year players go? But instead of releasing a little bit of information to the club's fans, SEN listeners got an update (small as it was) and there was nothing on the clubs website or social media. I know the Inter-club match against GWS is this years version of the official preseason Henson Park match but it doesn't mean we have no interest in the pre-season intra-club games. Doesn't have to be a detailed match report either, it can be a couple of lines on social media.

Overall the output of media and news from the club has gone backwards over the past couple of seasons. More reliance on afl news media to fill the website and details about the club, such as player injuries or contract extensions, are released or communicated through outside media. For example, we get more detail on injuries from a SEN interview with Tom Harley then we do from the club website. I know the club wants to have good relationships with the media and as such will drop them exclusive information but it feels like very little is communicated with the club's fans unless it is through SEN (or others) first. It will eventually be reported through the club's website but it will just be a write-up on what Harley said to the external media company.

Intra-club might mean that it's kept within the club. They probably didn't want any fuss with results, performances etc, particularly if working on changes to the overall game plan (as any here have been calling for). I'm looking forward to this Friday's hit out, but don't really care what's gone on behind closed doors prior to that (injuries excepted).

Happy for things to be kept in house if it gives us any sort of advantage when the real stuff starts.

I think it?s far more innocent than the club wanting to keep us away from an ?intraclub? or anything like that. I?m sure buddy was simply referring to one of the many training games they have inside the club.

I think that the reason that what has for the last few years has been our public intraclub match at Henson park has been changed to the INTERCLUB match against GWS is basically because of the AFLX. The aflx has basically replaced one of the JLT games. In the jlt we now only get two matches against opposition teams so I think the two Sydney clubs agreed that they?d prefer the extra full practice match and so the change made perfect sense.

Simple no conspiracies as far as I?m concerned.
