Didn't know where to put this post. Maybe it needs a thread of its own. Just found out Grand Final at MCG agreement has been extended to 2057! Victorian government pouring 500 million into ground development including Etihad and MCG. Absolute travesty of a national competition and grossly unfair on interstate teams playing on oppositions' home grounds. Parochial joke(and I live in Melbourne). We have been the victim of this and last year was outrageous that Tigers played on their home ground after finishing lower than Crows. Different game in Adelaide. Laughable situation in a supposed national competition. Makes me extremely angry.

What's laughable is that some people really think the world will still be functioning in 2057. There's a better chance of the Grand Final being played on Mars than at the MCG, unless they mean Mars Cricket Ground.

If you're an interstate side, you have to be a much better side than the Victorian side you are playing the GF against purely because of the home ground advantage.

I understand the "MCG is the only ground that holds enough people" thing but the competition is severely compromised by the fact that most Victorian sides, if they make the Grand Final, have a pronounced home ground advantage if they play a non-Victorian team.

Unless Gill is planning on sticking around for the next forty years, it demonstrates a certain amount of arrogance, to lock future administrations into a deal. A deal that seems not to take into account, any possible future changes in circumstances and power structures.

In response, all interstate clubs should demand their VIc games be played at the MCG to at least help reduce the home GF advantage. This should be at least a given for interstate teams who played in the previous year's finals (i.e. Adelaide, GWS, Swans, Port & West Coast). In our case we would get to play 8 games at the MCG this year!

In Sydney the government decided that the Olympic Stadium needed to be knocked down less than 18 years after the Olympics and remember that it was reconfigured and refurbished after the Olympics. If it had not been reconfigured it would have held 120,000. OK they backed down on that and are now going for a very expensive refurbishment. The MCG will be decrepit by the standards required for a stadium in 2057 and nobody currently would understand what those standards will be. It is not only arrogant and unfair to the non Victorian clubs to lock in a deal so far ahead but plain stupid to commit future generations to this deal. No players in the 2057 Grand Final have yet been born.

I am a Victorian Swan. Playing grand final on opponent's home ground, especially when interstate team finishes higher, is a disgrace and an indictment of the national competition. Parochial rubbish for political ends, engineered by Andrews and McGuire in cahoots with McLachlan.

I am happy for the grand final to be played on the mcg. It is better than the alternatives.

I dont like the idea of it being randomly rotated around each state. Or the venue only being finalised once the two teams are known.

We just have to be become better at playing on the mcg rather than whinge about it.

The same thing happens in rugby league with the gf played in Sydney.
