He is playing well. This gives me an uneasy feeling that the swans are on the precipice off a big fall when your best players are all over 30.

The lack of progress with players like allir who only 2 years ago had cemented his place and then seeing young guns like Mitchell and murray leave, you have to ask about what is happening with selection. It looks like a strategy to snag a flag in short term at the expense of the future. But has the window closed?

Now now.......no need to be STUPID! What a jerk of a comment....... I'll take that as a heat of the moment brain fart in the aftermath of a disappointing loss. I hate Hawthorn, I'm just not blind is all.

Mitchell primarily left because the timing of the expiry date of his contract was terrible. We had either committed to long term contracts a year or two earlier or (Mills, Heeney, Florent etc) were due to be offered long term deals. We also had a plethora of quality mids.
Murray wasn?t even a sling-shot when he left us, let alone a gun! Nowhere near looking like he?d be in the seniors.

Our flag window is still open & if the kids come on as projected, we have plenty of upside. Plus cap space for an established player or two over the next 2 seasons thanks to Kurt?s sacrificial retirement (which is how I choose to view it) and as much of our list are secured

Reid and Naismith not in your best 22? Post edit....I think I missed some sarcasm there.....ignore first question.

His name is Papley. Why they waste him in the middle when he is clearly far superior as a small forward is perplexing......

With those hideous colours I can't see how anyone would want to follow hawthorn. Are all its supporters colour blind?

And/or Hayward. I admit I'm a little confused by the determination to play all our small forwards in the midfield, regardless of whether they are physically ready for it.

                    +1.

By the way, anyone know who is the midfield coach? Tried to look it up on Swans website but was getting weird log in message to access ?more information?.

Pretty sure it's Kirk and Cox - two players who should know a fair bit about centre bounce structures and tactics.

Kirk was the forward line coach last year so this is his first year officially working with the midfield group.

But these 2 only know about how to play the midfield with a real ruckman. We should try to poach the Richmond midfield coach.

Getting pick 13 in return for a 21 y.o. who will be a 6-7 time all Australian and a probable Brownlow medalist is a joke. In a few years our midfield will be old. That wouldn't have been an issue if we had Mitchell.
Longmire never liked Mitchell because he thought he had did not defend. 64 NEAFL possies wasn't enough. Longmire asked way too much about defence. Wants 22 densive drones.

The boys have to fine tune their kicking to a moving target, one of the most critical skills of the game . Many of them are all over the shop often gifting it straight back .

That is so true and it bewilders me. Many players in other teams are so much better at this than nearly all our players. And I agree it is a critical skill, all the more so as the speed of the game has increased.

Sinking the boots into a coach with one flag and three grand finals under his belt is interesting. Not sure how you'd go following a lesser team. I'm appreciative of the record Longmire has achieved and all the success we've had under our pressure based system. Mitchell we couldn't afford without offloading Kennedy or Parker. Not the Swans way.
