He also thought the Swans are vulnerable outside the SCG on bigger grounds where they can be exposed. This is also strange considering we've won against good teams on Optus stadium, MCG & Kardinia Park, the latter two without Buddy. Even more bizarre to his reasoning is all our 3 losses have been at the SCG!

Happy for Media commentators having opinions but they need to be pulled up when they're reasoning is contradictory to the fact. Glad Whately & Bob Murphy did so to an extant on Saturday morning when Kane made these comments (they both thought he was being harsh on the Swans).
Kane Cornes is another in a long line of poorly researched commentators. God knows how he got a gig. Token South Australian?

Kiren has lost a yard, especially off the mark and needs to take first option more often. Hanners is doing this for the same reason, hence so many handballs!

I thought Adam Simpson was gracious in his post match conference when he said the Swans were the better team on the night & deserved the win, even though he thought West Coast did have their chances. Something which Chris Scott & Clarkson could take heed from. Scott rarely acknowledges the opposition in a loss & comes up with excuses to diminish the opposition's win. Clarkson goes running to Gill crying about being out played at his own game & requests changing the rules to suit his team.

Both were never fast Jack is good lateral on the spot like his rugby heritage
Hannas is getting his endurance up which is a good sign
I reckon for the sake of his body he has been told to play more outside

Kieren used to be quick over the ground, and is now only slightly less so. Hanners is coming along slowly, improving with each game. Their experience will be vital for us in the finals.

Must be time again for someone to say the SCG is 'postage stamp sized'
Completely agree. Malthouse's comments are embarrassingly out-of-date. For example says: "they rely heavily on Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery and Luke Parker to deliver the goods from the stoppages ..." and "The clubs that will bother the Swans in September are those with enough pace to out-spread them." If those are his concerns about the Swans then he should probably have watched us play at least once in 2018.

Malthouse lost any feel for the game about 8 years ago. He was once thought of as an authority on the game. Now he's just another bloke with an uninformed opinion.

Malthouse was the bloke who declared at the start of one season that he couldn?t see where Carlton were going to lose a game. I don?t think it is that recent that he ?lost it?.

Fixed that for you KSAS - the Scott brothers are shockers for always having an excuse or ten up their sleeve.

Am I the only one here that is happy that the media is talking us down? Swans play best as the underdogs, always have.

He started coaching Carlton five years ago. His coaching was starting to get crap about three years before that. A lot of great coaches lose it eventually. Barassi, Pagan, Malthouse to name a few. Wish Clarkson would.

He makes excellent descisions on most occasions , if he makes one blue or two like most players, he gets doubted .
Why is Aliir marked so hard ?
For me it is simply that I don't know which is the real Aliir. Was the 2016 version a flash in the pan or is the 2017/18 version the real Aliir. Whilst he played well on Friday night I thought he played a very loose role. That 3rd man up role that suits him well. I recall only a couple of one on one defensive contests. Whilst Grundy and Rampe were left with the main defensive roles on their talls. I agree it was a positive return, but the jury is still out for me. Call me old fashion but i still want my defenders to defend 1st and transition 2nd. And for that reason he still sits behind Grundy, Rampe and Melican as our key defensive talls. I know for some he is seen as a defensive saviour, but I just want to see an extended period of quality defensive performances before I can confidently say which is the real version. I sincerely hope its 2016.

It would be great to keep Aliir in the side and replace Marsh with Melican even if that makes a very tall backline for Richmond.

If someone other than Rampe can take Reiwoldt this might work as Rampe is quick enough to play as a small defender. Can?t imagine either Melican or Aliir are slower than McVeigh.

Macca has to come back but I agree at whose expense?

One completely left field (stupid?) idea would be to play Aliir as a defensive forward on Rance.
As good as Aliir was on Friday night I feel that he will have to come out due to match ups against Richmond. They are one of the few teams who only really have one tall forward and I wouldn't even say Jack is a monster of a forward!

I would think it will be 1 change with Macca in for Aliir.

Aliir to possibly be back in the following week against Geelong if not then the week after against North.

We shouldn't forget that the road for Reg that made him into the accomplished player that he is today was not so smooth. There was lots of bumbling and fumbling along the way. Rampe was as close to an instant success as they come, but he was a mature ager. I'm a big fan of Melican and if he stays fit, he should be a solid defender for a long time.

The thing with Aliir is that he represents a point of difference in a close competition. It's for that reason I believe we need to do what we can to insure that he succeeds. His prodigious talent is on display, but so are the things that require improvement. He seems at a pretty good stage in his development given that he's only an 18 gamer. There never seemed to be a good reason for why he should go into a decline from his 2016 form. His showing on Friday confirmed for me that it was just the lack of continuity stemming from several injuries during the past 2 years. He was also in good NEAFL form in the 2nd half of last year, but wasn't given an opportunity at senior level.

We've backed players in that have contributed a lot less than Aliir, giving them blocks of senior games even when their form didn't deserve it, including Sinclair, Towers, Jones, Hayward and Florent. I don't know why we are even debating doing the same for Aliir.
