Wholeheartedly agree and while Gary can deliver the occasional piece of magic unless his level of involvement increases Dean adds more around the ground

Bye games are always tricky...often the extra time off can be a curse. The good news is the Swans face Geelong next Thursday and they have a shorter week. Hopefully, this loss motivates the Swans. I don't see Rohan being dropped...if for no other reason than his personal struggles this season. The optics would be bad and of all teams, I don't believe Sydney would be willing to do it. I may be off base, but it seems like footy teams aren't as cutthroat as the NFL or other leagues here in the States. When folks, like Buddy, need time off for mental health reasons, Australia seems to rally around them. If Tom Brady didn't play for the same reason, he would be crucified...

My take, play pretty @@@@, kicked straight, Kennedy, Parker, Ronke, McCartin & Sinclair great. Missed Heeny. Richmond had Riewoldt best game in memory, Richmond making a statement, Richmond down a man.

Bring our best and we can win

Hanners must go. Absolutely butchered it and is cooked.

That will be the last game Rose plays. Just not afl standard unfortunately.

Love Ronke so much. McCartin starting to show a bit too.

Wouldn?t give Garry one more chance.

Being only four points down with only 14 minutes to go ( according to Fox Footy FHeads ) shows we are not too far away. However no matter how you look just missing out is still losing

Agree. We look so much more solid down back there with Melican and as good as Aliir was against WC, he looked slightly out of his depth tonight.....a la finals.

                  • Ronke has been a real find.
                  • Hewitt is a professional footballer who can do a good stopping job but can also get some contested footy
                  • Zak Jones is so important for our run from the back
                  • McCartin is so promising. It would be nice to see if he can start hitting the scoreboard but I love this kid already.

                  Negatives:
                  • Rohan. I've always been a supporter but I think Ronke does his forward pressure job much better.
                  • Rose. It is hard to come in from the NEAFL to play against the best team in the comp but I don't think he's good enough.
                  • Hanners has definitely lost 10%. I can't knock his effort but his polish is not there.
                  • Sinkers got thoroughly beaten by Nankervis both in the ruck and around the ground.
                  • Jack. 8 possessions hmmmm
I agree with all of that. Those players you listed as 'positives' played very admirably. Hayward's second half was pretty good, but he kicked poorly too.

The kicking generally was deplorable. Wilted under pressure too easily. We fumbled, shanked. We looked slow.

A reasonable part of that slowness is playing Jack and Hannebery in midfield. They can't both play. I am still willing to give Hannebery a bit longer to get his touch back, but I think Jack's physically done. He's certainly playing no better than O'Keefe did in that last year he played out of the team. Let's get Fox or Newman in and give them a run at it.

I have also long defended Rohan, but he looks shot of confidence and unfocussed - also needs a spell. He feels a long way from it. I feel bad for him. Perhaps he needs some time off. Replaced by Towers.

I was a bit disappointed by Buddy tonight. He didn't chase, pressure and contest as much as he could have. I wonder about that heel.

The Rose performance was, most unfortunately, typical of all but his first quarter of AFL football - a lot of running in circles and failed tackle attempts. Suspect that was his last shot at it. Let's hope Papley is fit next week.

Ripped up by Riewoldt tonight, obviously. I am not sure why Aliir spent so much time on him, but he beat Rampe too. All of the tall defenders played poorly. Reg's touch was well off. Melican would have been the ideal match-up for Riewoldt - let's hope he plays this weekend, gets through, and is available to return next week.

KJ and Rose won't feature.Hanners and Rohan look shakey. Dawson, Fox, Newman, COR, Marsh and Towers waiting in the wings means that we can pick in form players as required.

But Horse needs to stop the charity for the chosen few.Its not fair to the others.

Still prepared to persist with Hanners despite shocking disposal tonight. Kieren Jack, sadly, has become a liability. Lost some speed and looks like he has lost his nerve, ducking his head each time he gets the ball. Probably should give it away unfortunately.

+1 for the omission of Jack, Rohan and Hanners next week.
Won't make a call on them longer than that at this point.

                        Thought Rose deserves another go.

If the three above players ARE dropped (as suggested by many here) then it's hard to really let any more go, so Rose, McCartin, Allir, etc will all have to stay

Great hands, clever decision making most of the time and he loves to tackle. Really great potential.

I agree. Jack, Rohan and Hannas were the worst of a bad bunch. Rampe was annihilated by Reiwoldt. So was Reg and Aliir. their small forwards ran rings around Lloyd, Jones, Smithy & Macca. We will never win a premiership with Jack and Rohan in our team unless Rohan finds some grunt. Jack is cooked. Weagles are slow and the fact Jack got 24 against them is proof. I am leaving Hannas until last. He has had a nightmare season. Not only has he had injury but his form has been terrible. If he doesn't come good maybe this year he should play reserves. Lets see if he can turn up next season in good nick.

Rose is pretty well gone. He tried really hard and did some nice things but when the ball was not falling his way, his defensive game dropped off. I saw a few instances of why they refused to play him. Like on the wing where he just stopped and then decided 'Oh gee I have to chase'. Not good enough. Players like Towers, Newman, Fox, Dawson, bell would have been on their case.

Many people were picking on Aliir tonight. I thought he did a pretty good job under very difficult circumstances. The fact the opposition were able to pass the ball in every time made his and the other defender's jobs much harder. Too many of our forwards and mids not doing their jobs. We were far too loose tonight and our delivery was crap.

Two positive things from tonight. Ben Ronke and Tom McCartin. These kids are gold and they never give in. They tackle, chase, contest and beat much bigger and more experienced opponents. I love these guys. Ollie Florrent made a few mistakes but he was still very good.

our kids really made the effort tonight and some of our more experienced players should take a leaf out of their book.

I don't like the idea of being Buddy conscious and tonight, especially in the second and early third we were. I think it is sucker footy. I also wonder, if we are going to do that, was it really worth it Buddy coming here? After all relying too much on him has cost us far too much. We need a far more expansive look to our forward-line. the other thing that bothered me about tonight's game was that even if we got the ball off the pack we had few if any players at the base of the packs. If for instance, Parker and Heens were in the forward -line as well as Bud, Sinkas and McCartin, then everybody of those flew for the mark. There was no spread except from the smaller forwards. That meant they were not under the ball and the ball just got cleared out and quickly cleared. Dumb footy.

If our coaches and players don't learn from this then they are stupid. We have a young side and 'd like it to get even younger. get rid of Jack, Hannas and rohan until they can prove they can earn their way back with 20 disposal and at least 3 goal games for Rohan, at least 30 disposals with an efficiency rating of 78% for both Kizza and Hannas. Otherwise don't bother.

I will look forward to seeing how Towers, Dawson, Fox, Bell and Foote go in the reserves.

Oh, I just noticed a Vic journo drawing attention to Buddy's 'elbow' to Rance's 'throat' at the press conference......."How's Alex?".....kiss, kiss, kiss! Groan!!! Hardwick deflected it, to his credit.

Sad - but true. I?m not quite ready to give up on Hannebery just yet, tho. I reckon he?ll be back (if he can ever get his battered body right).

As for Rose, if they rate him, he needs time to develop at senior level. Tough game to get a start, no point giving kids just one game if they?ve earned a spot.
