Surgery for Reid. Out for 6 weeks
Melican out for 8 weeks
Thats the season for both.
Gee this Sam Reid bloke is softer than meringue buttercream. 2016 0 games, 2018 1 game. When does his contract expire? We would be better off Rookie listing this bloke and drafting another young potential talent.
We've been massively screwed by injury this year. We now have the following players out for the season (or as good as);
Mills (Foot),
Naismith (Knee),
Ling (Toe),
McVeigh (Collarbone),
Hannebery (OP)
Reid (Achilles), and
Melican (Hamstring).
Jack is TBA but might as well be injured given what he contributes.
It's almost time to put the cue in the rack this season.
Our injury list is not great, but it's probably not as bad as Collingwood's, for example, and they seem to have brought in lesser known players and doing quite well.
It's hard to say if we can do the same, i.e. bringing in players like O'Riordan, Cameron and Dawson and hoping they can come right in play a good brand of footy.
One of the big problems we've had is having Hanners and Jack IN the side, so now that they're out, we should actually improve.

I don't think Horse is a cue-in-the-rack sort of coach. He'll be gunning for the top 4 as he should be. If Reid and Macca could get back that would help. I would be very happy not to see Hanners again in 2018, but want to see him fit and raring to go next year.
With injuries comes opportunity to Sinkers, Aliir, McCartin, Fox, and potentially COR, Dawson, Newman and even Cameron. If they can get finals experience this year, that will be a bonus next.

Lets be honest, all those are fringe players who we can cover.
Mills (Foot) - Young player, yet to set the world on fire.
Naismith (Knee) - Covered by Sinclair. In fact, would struggle to get a game.
Ling (Toe), - Not in best 22.
McVeigh (Collarbone) - Having a good year, but been fringe for a number of years now.
Hannebery (OP) - One we do actually miss, but should be back for finals.
Reid (Achilles) - Never on the park. Cant miss what you never see.
Melican (Hamstring) - Fringe player.
Jack is TBA but might as well be injured given what he contributes. - Again, best is behind him. Fringe player.
None, apart from Hannebery and Reid (if in form) are in our best 15.
Rubbish.
Maybe missing your point.
I don't care if he gets 3 goals a game, but if you think 5 touches is enough, there is a point that you are missing.
Yes, I understand you point, I just don't agree.
Maybe my expectation of a senior AFL player are higher.
You've also missed the part where Plugger1300 said 5+ a quarter - 20 touches a game. No one ever suggested 5 disposals a game was going to cut it

Yes, I did.
Apologies for that.
But the point stands.
Making excuses for low possessions and low impact in a game based on the the theory that "not all players can have an impact" is not acceptable.
Sure there are other roles to play. Tagging etc, but Rohan doesn't seem to have any real specific role except spurts of exciting football very intermittantly.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

A little bit harsh on Melican and Naismith. Melican was clearly top 22 last season and its only injury that has changed that - certainly more than just a fringe player per say. Naismith may struggle to get a game with the form Sinclair is in atm, but is arguably our best 'pure ruckman' at the club.

I think if Naismith was 100% fit today, he'd be rucking, Sinkers would be playing as a ruck-fwd in place of McCartin and Reid would still be injured.

Besides how rare it has been for Naismith to be 100% fit, I don't think he's ever played close to the way Sinclair has played this year. Naismith may be the better tap ruckman, but the rest of his game has yet to develop.
Sinclair with Cameron would be a better combo than Sinclair with Naismith, and we have yet to see that so far, although with the injury list mounting and Darcy's good form, it should be considered this week.
With Amartey getting an additional year rookie contract, Naismith is down to our 4th choice ruckman. I wouldn't offer him a senior contract this year, but rather a 1 year rookie contract.

Naismith our 4th best ruckman? You've got to be kidding. You've even got Amartey ahead of him.
Naismith is a pure ruckman. He would certainly be our 1st ruck if he was fit. Sinclair would our fwd/ruck.
