Maibaum is a surprise inclusion as he was still listed on the Swans injury list as 1-2 weeks on Tuesday. No Pink Foote or Amartey despite none of them being named on the injury list (Is there a point to the injury list anymore?)
13 listed players in total but of course at least 1, and possibly 2 (keeping an eye on that 3 man emergency list) will be rested for the AFL game, most likely Dawson and/or Towers.
And of course, no REID!

Apparently the 3 NEAFL emergencies named above will be playing so expect 3 listed players to drop out, which makes a senior change very, very likely. It also lends credence to my Marsh theory.Comment

NEAFL 2018 Semi Final 1
Sydney Swans Reserves v Canberra Demons @ Blacktown International Sports Park
Saturday 8th September
11:30am
Blacktown International Sports Park
The Swans have an unblemished record in NEAFL Grand Final qualifiers. Since the formation of the NEAFL in 2011, the Swans have defeated the following sides, with the only anomaly being in 2015 when they were knocked out by Aspley in the first week of the finals
2011 Ainslie
2012 Queanbeyan
2013 Belconnen
2014 NT Thunder
2016 Aspley
2017 Gold Coast
Canberra's progress under player-coach Kade Klemke in his 3 years in charge has been one of steady improvement. Winning just 3 games in their inaugural season in 2016, the Demons's 7 wins in the following season saw them just miss out on a finals berth. Their 10 wins this season, including 3 wins over AFL sides, was enough to earn a 6th placed finish and a debut finals appearance against Sydney University, played at Blacktown.
With the Demons ending the regular season with 4 straight losses, including a loss to Uni by 47 points in Round 20, Canberra were big underdogs going into the game. However, led by possible AFL draftee and former GWS Academy member Mitch Maguire who starred with 45 disposals, 10 tackles and 5 clearances, the Demons led from start to finish and held off a late Uni charge for a memorable 9 point victory. One of the highlights for Canberra was their multi-pronged attack, with 12 individual goalkickers on the day.
The last clash between the two sides was only a few weeks ago in Round 19, where the Swans kicked 6 goals to none in the last quarter to overturn a 23 points three quarter time deficit to triumph by 13 points.

Maguire is clearly their best player, finishing 4th in the recently concluded NEAFL MVP. The Swans will look to put a tag on him, most likely Jake Brown. Isaac Taylor and Alex Smout are their other main ball winners, both averaging over 24 disposals and 5 clearances a game.
Halfbacks Sam Martyn, Tom Highmore and Kade Klemke set up a lot of their attacks from the backline, with their quick transition from defensive fifty to forward fifty a hallmark of their game plan.
One area the Swans have a clear advantage in is in the ruck, where the Demons will be missing regular ruckman Cameron Milne who has not fully recovered from a concussion. Cameron dominated Milne in the Round 19 clash, so should have no issues against his back up Nathan Richards.
Up forward, as mentioned in the intro, the Demons do not rely on 1 or 2 players to kick their goals. Their top 7 goalkickers all average over 1 goal a game, however only 3 of them (Fulford, Bruce and Hardie) will be lining up in this game.Comment

It may seem like that but they are based purely on ladder positions. Funnily enough based on the final ladder, one half of the draw had 3 QLD sides - Southport, Aspley and the Lions - and the other half were 3 NSW/ACT teams - Us, Uni and Canberra.
I remember last year after the Essendon elimination final, we hosted the NEAFL GF. I guess being a prelim instead of a GF, hosting it at the SCG wasn’t an option this year
I really would like to go on Sat morning but based on past experience it would be touch and go for me to get from Blacktown to the SCG before first bounce
Has anyone got contacts at the club that could help arrange?Comment

Didn't there used to be a pink chopper. Maybe that could be dusted off for Uggs use.Comment

I am still contemplating going to the game. The ressies match should finish about 2 and that leaves well over two hours to get from one game to the next. Surely that's enough?
Also, am I right in thinking that if Southport win, they will host the granny, but, if they don't and we do, we will? If so, can we assume it will be next Saturday at BISP?
Incidentally I hadn't registered before that not only was Cameron fantastic in the ruck and around the ground but that he also topped our goal kicking! I really hope he is able to work on what he needs to over the pre-season and gets some more opportunities in the seniors. He's definitely putting in the work! All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

My Marsh theory is that he will be a late in to play on Toby Greene
2 hours sounds sufficient if traffic is okay. I remember being stung once when making my way and getting caught in Saturday afternoon traffic along with an accident near the Harbour Bridge. I missed the first quarter of the AFL game (but the time between games may have been shorter, I can’t honestly remember any more)
I haven’t checked this year’s rules and regulations PDF but if the same procedures are in place from last year, whenever an AFL Reserves side plays a non Reserves side (called a community side in the PDF) in the GF, the community side will host the game regardless of finishing ladder position.Comment

I believe the rule is that the highest ranked grand finalist gets to host the GF in their region but only if the game is between two AFL-clubs or two non-AFL clubs. If it is between an AFL club and a non-AFL club, the latter gets to host the final regardless of their rankings. So if the Swans win tomorrow, they'll be travelling up to Queensland next weekend.Comment
