Guess Melbourne's deplorable goal kicking helped a lot, but it was still great to see the Swans remember how to play football- fierce at the contest and spreading hard, good short kicks to a free man, and reasonable goal conversion. A shame Buddy's radar was a bit off but great to see him still up and about and looking confident in his body (and his ability, it goes without saying). I marvel that a man who has kicked over 900 goals still loves to celebrate each one at hard as he does.

Brilliant hands by Heeney in the final ten minutes. One will be featured on all the highlight reels, but another couple were almost as tricky and needed him to keep his eyes on the ball all the way. He seems to have a really good feel for where to position himself.

Aliir was again great, especially early. The loss of personnel in the backline changed his role a bit but I liked the way he kept contesting for marks, even when they weren't sticking so well.

Easily Hanners' best game for the year. Sure, a couple of goals to the Dees were directly attributable to wayward hand passes from him but it's not surprising he's somewhat rusty. He showed he still knows where to run to find the ball and can still win it too. The way his team mates got around him after he kicked the goal suggests he's a popular and valued part of the group. I'm not sure why he'd want to leave to go to a rabble of a club just for one guaranteed extra year. If he's still playing OK in three years he'll earn another contract, at the Swans or somewhere else.

Florent was a bit of a surprise at half back. He had some good moments and some not so good ones (like when he was clean bowled for a goal) but he had more impact than in recent weeks. Good to see Hayward have more impact than in the last few games. I agreed with Steve's comments about team selection and there being no excuses if the younger players were again very quiet, but I guess Longmire just picked what he thought was his best available side and, at least today, it looks like he got it right.
That mark Heeney took with around about 2 mins to go, 1 on 1 with a high ball just near the defending goal square - we should make every defender watch that bit of play 100 times. Perfect positioning, eyes never left the footy, and outworked his opponent with ease. Was the mark of a very classy footballer the way he controlled, under such huge pressure, such a critical passage of play.

A win against GWS next week sets us up for a Top 4 decider vs Hawks. At home.
Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sector

          Just starting to watch it.

          Daisy interviewing Gawn who described
SYDNEY as one of the greatest teams of the modern era.

Would he prefer to play for SYDNEY.

Vintage Swans. Doing it for a mate, against the odds, caring not a bit about the hostile crowd or the Melbourne establishment. Almost imagined Kirk running around out there.

Really enjoyed Heeney's game, good to see Hannebery back into some form too.

Gutted for AJ though. Really emotional scenes at the end there.

I can't wait for next weekend.

By the way. How good is Dawson going?

He has just played his 3rd game of the year and his 4th of his career. Looks at home in the midfield and forward half. Can kick like a bullet and good in the contest.

I’m very pleased with his progress.

Great kick and set shot, really good hands and a natural left footer. I like that!

His kicking for goal (bar the last miss) is pretty good. The kid has always been a favourite of many of the regular ressies watches - he seems to be taking his chance now. In a couple of seasons time he is going to be a very, very good afl player.

Just wished he'd kicked that second goal. Would have saved a few heart palpitations towards the end. Though Papley's chance to do the same was an easier one. (But can't really criticise him too much given the great goals he did kick today).

Despite us having met in the finals previously, next week is arguably the biggest Sydney Derby thus far. Huge game for both teams in the context of the broader season. Should be a cracker.

So proud of all the Swans supporters after the game for there ovation given to Alex and the team. Today was a very happy sad day. I think Nick Newmans reaction says it all for all of us.

Do you think AJ’s knees aren’t as structurally sound and built for footy as other players, or is he just ridiculously unlucky? I know today was an unfortunate injury (he clipped a Melbourne players boot with his left foot and redirected his weight midair onto his right placing it in an awkward position), but is he just prone to these sorts of ligament issues?

Whatever the case, I am absolutely gutted for him. I feel sick about it.
