His tapwork is unbelievable. Kudos for Sinclair for toiling so hard though all day long - he has been a warrior for us this year and I feel he deserves to finish in the top half a dozen in our best and fairest.

The free against Hanners after a Melbourne goal in the last quarter for "punching", was that shown on Fox? It was during an ad break on Ch7 so I'm none the wiser about what happened.

Great effort by the team today. Washed away many doubts for the moment and did us proud.

On the plus side, we won’t play a team outside the 8 for the rest of the year.

Only caught the last 8 mins after getting home from work.
So disconsolate for AJ. What happened ?

Yet another classic win, can’t wait to watch the whole game.
Radio commentators driving home were saying Melbourne were nervous and spooked by Sydney’s pressure , one station started playing Benny Hill themes when Dees kept making stuff ups which was quite amusing.

It might have motivated Hanners / Jack to read that.

What a ridiculous inclusion this section is:
Intriguingly, Sydney – a club that made an art form of attracting and getting the best out of recycled talent – sits a clear bottom in the same period for player debuts from other teams.
The Swans' only two debuts in that time were back in 2016, with Adelaide, North Melbourne, Richmond and St Kilda the next-lowest clubs with five apiece.
That follows trade restrictions the AFL placed on them a few years back – in the wake of Tippett's then Franklin's arrival in the Harbour City – and the cost-of-living allowance being phased out.

That article answers its own question - the AFL created that problem for us, despite never providing proof we broke any rules.

Hard to remember feeling so low after what was a pretty good win.

Guess Melbourne's deplorable goal kicking helped a lot, but it was still great to see the Swans remember how to play football- fierce at the contest and spreading hard, good short kicks to a free man, and reasonable goal conversion. A shame Buddy's radar was a bit off but great to see him still up and about and looking confident in his body (and his ability, it goes without saying). I marvel that a man who has kicked over 900 goals still loves to celebrate each one at hard as he does.

Brilliant hands by Heeney in the final ten minutes. One will be featured on all the highlight reels, but another couple were almost as tricky and needed him to keep his eyes on the ball all the way. He seems to have a really good feel for where to position himself.

Aliir was again great, especially early. The loss of personnel in the backline changed his role a bit but I liked the way he kept contesting for marks, even when they weren't sticking so well.

Easily Hanners' best game for the year. Sure, a couple of goals to the Dees were directly attributable to wayward hand passes from him but it's not surprising he's somewhat rusty. He showed he still knows where to run to find the ball and can still win it too. The way his team mates got around him after he kicked the goal suggests he's a popular and valued part of the group. I'm not sure why he'd want to leave to go to a rabble of a club just for one guaranteed extra year. If he's still playing OK in three years he'll earn another contract, at the Swans or somewhere else.

Florent was a bit of a surprise at half back. He had some good moments and some not so good ones (like when he was clean bowled for a goal) but he had more impact than in recent weeks. Good to see Hayward have more impact than in the last few games. I agreed with Steve's comments about team selection and there being no excuses if the younger players were again very quiet, but I guess Longmire just picked what he thought was his best available side and, at least today, it looks like he got it right.

Really looking forward to Dee fan Titus O'Reilly's "Monday Knee Jerk Reaction" this week to read his assessment of his team...... I feel for him......almost.

The trade ban might have played a part, though I suspect not that much. (Though if they'd not relaxed the restrictions slightly for the second year it applied, we would have been unable to trade Sinclair in for the departing Jetta, being limited to accepting draft picks only).

I think just as significant is the number of decent to very good players we've found in the rookie draft and lower reaches of the ND. It still remains that you need high draft picks to increase your chances of getting real class into a team, but Papley, Ronke, Melican, Lloyd, Aliir, Dawson (early days) and others look more than fringe players.

Last year the Eagles were lambasted by the (Melbourne) media as "flat track bullies" - beating up on lower ranked teams but unable to beat anyone decent. This week I heard the same media noting that the Dees had yet to beat anyone in the top 8 (or 9) and describing it as a quirk, or quaint.

Reality is they are the ultimate flat track bullies of 2018. Look like a million dollars when they have no resistance but either don't have the mental strength or the game plan to stand up against a team that provides some resistance. I realise their poor goal conversion hindered them today, but our loss of two players by quarter time hindered us too.
