I work very hard for my money and have the luxury of being able to afford a redback membership.

GWS sent out a text about an hour ago saying "Ticketek has advised members finals pre-sale is on hold due to system issues", and they
would email their members when there was an update. Things are going well.

Tickets are available in the sense that the game hasn't sold out. But the sale process seems to still be suspended so, right now, tickets are not available.

Fair play (and wise for you). A new opportunity for the Swans with the finals/scg agreement in place is to designate some stands as reserved for finals for Swans members and then sell seat rights in them for finals as an add-on option.

              Mmmmmmmm.
Ticketmaster did upgrade their systems a few years ago and seem to not have the regular meltdowns that ticketek do - who I am sure still are running on a Commodore 64 or similar backend system.

If I lived in Sydney I'd look at the Premium memberships, but not when I only get to 5 or 6 games a year at home (and prefer to put the extra towards away trips to be honest!).

I've always wondered whether, at least for reserved seat memberships, whether there has been active consideration of letting those members be able just to get their normal seats, with an additional payment of course... would frustrate me a little if I had a reserved membership to then have completely different seats for finals.

Just for my own little rant, here is my recent experience with Ticketek:

                1. My credit card is compromised for a bunch of transactions.
                2. When rectifying the problem my bank incorrectly flagged a ticketek purchase as fraudulent when it wasn't.
                3. As the bank withheld the funds from ticketek, ticketek blocked my account.
                4. Have you ever tried calling ticketek? After raising complaints on their website, then via facebook, i finally get a number to speak to someone on.
                5. In the meantime, create another ticketek account so I can buy tickets.
                6. This account is blocked too (I assume because he used my Swans membership number which I had also used on the previous account).
                7. My Dad tries to buy tickets for me, his account is blocked too (I assume because he also used my Swans membership number).
                8. Both my accounts and my Dad's account remain blocked.

I'm asking my brother to buy tickets to the final on his own account, without using any number associated with me as I am clearly tainted. The only way I can see being able to use ticketek ever again is by creating a new identity.

                    Wow... this really is appalling.
The AFL don't really give a rats, the club's hands are tied...
You'd think with all the money they make out of broadcast rights, they'd get this little thing right. FFS... no games are being played for TWO weeks. They could stagger the ticket sales over the next two weeks and everyone will be happy.

Yeah but that implies the AFL has common sense, which is something they've ever shown us they have.

What is so frustrating is its the same old story, year in year out with Ticketek.

It's not really the AFL's fault. Ticketek hold the rights to sell tickets for events at the SCG. The SCG Trust signed that contract
with Ticketek. In the same way they signed the catering rights deal with Delaware North. The Swans & the AFL just use the ground.
They don't own it, they are tenants basically. They are not the only tenants. ANZ Stadium is a Ticketek venue also. The only
way to avoid Ticketek for finals tickets in Sydney would be to play the game at Spotless, as that is a Ticketmaster venue.

                            Shhhh... don't tell anyone!!
This is part of the reason I dug deep and became a redback member... that, and the early access to the BnF - which has been taken away from us without telling first.
                            Ticketek are a farce.
This is something the ACCC should look at - not only do they have a monopoly, that monopoly turns into snakes and ladders the minute you actually want to play.

Would be nice if the Swans used the notification message system to let us know what is going on. Seems other clubs are sending their members info.

Swans have something on website but that won’t reach many people.

Swans effectively use notifications to tell us many other things - when games are starting, final scores, team selections etc. so they have the capacity to do this.

True - but the AFL could put some serious corporate pressure on Ticketek to get their issues sorted out - especially given this is a never ending giant pile of poo every time finals series pretty much.

Its the simple things they could do but don't to minimise the likelihood of problems that are so frustrating - such as staggering release times/dates etc I understand even the most sophisticated ticketing systems can go down sometimes, but they don't do anything to try and improve it year in, year out. Let alone more generally the backwardness of their ticketing system - for a large majority of events you still can't choice your exact seat (something ticketmaster achieved several years ago now).

They have been twittering a fair bit today the Swans about it all, but I agree using the app notification system would be helpful.
