It was nice to see Buddy in a training photo actually training ????.

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

The injury list published today on afl.com.au - The full AFL injury list: pre-season update - AFL.com.au - makes for depressing reading.
None of Franklin, Menzel, and Smith are especially likely to start round 1 and Naismith surely won't (just when tap ruckmen are coming back into vogue). Worse, Ling is still injured "indefinitely".
Buddy - not ideal but we play OK when he's not there as we spread our goal kickers more
Menzel - just get him right
Smith - I don't think he's a key player for us anymore and think he's replaceable anyway
Naismith - get a few games into Cameron
Ling - hasn't even debuted anyway (why did we extend his contract already? This has Daniel O'Keefe vibe!)Comment

I actually don't think that injury list is a disaster.

My concern is the unnamed players who did not play against GWS.
McVeigh, Foot, Sinclair, Reid, Ronke, McCartin and Amartey. None are supposedly injured yet we know McCartin might be some time. Also add Cameron who supposedly came off with a minor injury. Were the others just rested or is there something more that we are not being told.Comment

None of our players are indispensable but Smith is absolutely an important player. He is arguably the best in the comp at his role. Plus he is part of our leadership group and one of the most senior players in a relatively inexperienced team. Ling I feel particularly disappointed by because he's a first round draft pick that we evidently have really high hopes for who barely managed to get on the park last year, who I thought we had sent for surgery and would be right to go this year but who now turns up towards the end of pre-season as being out "indefinitely".All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

Thanks, so that's 26 that get a run plus 4 emergencies.
Have we got 26 ready to play? :-)
Be good to see the new rules in operation under more normal match conditions. Will take a while but the raft of changes are definitely going to help certain teams, let's see which ones ...Last edited by 707; 28 February 2019, 10:48 AM.Comment

You can name up to 8 on the bench but play less on the day. You may even name 8 on the day but not bring them on unless someone gets injured.Comment

Speaking to a few of the players last Tuesday about the ansett cup, most are looking forward to having a "run" and were hoping they were named.
Like us, they're itching for footy to start again.
The oldies... not so keen.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

This thread has been sort of disabled by another weird link.....and I must say it is contained in the biggest post I've ever seen on RWO.....what have you done ludwig? I could only reply via quoting someone and then deleting the quote to write this....Comment

I was heavily drugged by these guys, which must be obvious by this post.
Anyway, the deleted post said, more or less, that Xavier Ellis predicted that Aliir would be AA, even though you could say he was already AA, and surpass the like of Rance and McGovern. I hope he's right, be cause I think Aliir is the key, or certainly a very part of, how the Swans will go over the next have dozen years. He also releases Rampe to take on a more attaching role, something that he's very good at. Looking forward to a different backline with a lot more flare. Having said that, Reg looks to be in good shape and perhaps ready to have a big year. Maybe we can play Reg, Melican, Rampe and Aliir in the same backline.Last edited by Ludwig; 1 March 2019, 07:59 PM.Comment
