Swans chat Swans pushing for 3 Grand Finals

    Category: | Herald Sun

    Actually like the idea.
Also have been a long term proponent of expanding the whole finals system.
Hate that you play 22 rounds to end with 8 teams, lose 2 instantly, and then more each week.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

Will never see it in my lifetime, although I think it has merit.

The load on the players would be too much unless the season was shortened, which would disadvantage the other 16 teams who didn't make the GF, and also would cost the AFL revenue, which would also cost all AFL teams.

Worth pursuing just for the troll value really. We should fully be planning to keep complaining about the MCG grand final rort for the next 40 years, so hopefully by then everyone will be so sick of it they'll give it up.

Won’t happen as the small bit I’ve read states the contract with the MCC is that the deciding game has to be at the MCG.

So in essence the first game would be meaningless as the next 2 would be at the MCG cancelling out the first game at a non MCG venue.

Don’t be surprised if one day it’ll be best of 2 just like international rules with score aggregate deciding the winner of the series if tied after 2. That way the mcg if played as the second game, still gets the deciding game with the first still having a lot to do with the outcome of who wins the premiership.

I like the sound of it.

Hanners is on the bandwagon... either that, or he just likes the attention from the press.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

The AFL has really backed themselves into a corner now.

They’ve locked the GF in for decades to come and immediately after signing the contract the non Victorian clubs have started their campaign.

It’s not going to go away n it’ll only get louder as the years go by. They’re a very very incompetent bunch of administrators of the so called national competition.

                Not a fan.

The Grand Final replays that we have had have been fizzers.

Prefer the chance of an upset.

I wouldnt say fizzers. They were less popular than the original for a number of reasons:
                  1) The first one was a draw which means no winner.
                  2) People have not planned for the next weekend (something a 3 game series wouldnt have)
                  3) Its hastily organised, whereas a 3 game series would be planned as soon as GF'álists are known.
                  4) The fan expectation of a 3 game series (ie, "what till we get them on our turf" ) would make each GF an event on its own.

Sounds like another opportunity for the AFL to price gouge the fans.

Some of the comments in today's H/S regarding this show what the non Vic teams are up against. Very anti Swans, along the lines of 'they need three chances', 'pathetic interstate crap', 'still looking for unfair advantages', 'interstate teams have done very well in the GF' and even this wacky pearler.....'the Swans have the luxury of 11 home games every season, what more do they want?!' Seriously??!! There was even one bemoaning their greatest fear, interstate GF's.....'are we going to have GF's at tiny stadiums like Spotless or Metricon?' They really fear the GF being taken away from the exclusivity of the MCG.....

The delusion of this league being a totally fair one runs high in Victoria.

It’s the HS. What did you expect. Most people outside Victoria wouldn’t use the HS to wipe their .....

I lived in Richmond for a while n the majority, not all, are ignorant to what happens outside Melbourne.

To summarise, the AFL is a national sport played throughout metropolitan Melbourne.

I love the fact that the club has come out with this. Something needs to be done about the inequity of the grand final (as well as many more things). I personally don't like the idea of three GFs but at least this gets the discussion started on how unfair the AFL is.

It's really pissed me off this week listening to the Victorians being critical of this idea. They're the same people who are in favour of the GF being played at the MCG. This is what we are up against and the other non-Victorian clubs should be joining us.
