Oh don't worry, I'm over it but I was simply replying to a comment that implied he was giving the Swans a bad rap......maybe that comment was inaccurate.Comment

Apologies if i've posted this in the wrong thread, but heard Shane Crawford on SEN this morning say he was set to join us for the 2006 season as he was very disgruntled with Hawthorn at that stage, but changed his mind after we won the 2005 flag.
This is because he figured the club had just achieved the pinnacle he was also chasing, despite us also making the 2006 GF. Port had offered him a Godfather offer which included a McDonald's franchise, which he rejected as he was desperate for success. He eventually did in his final game at the 2008 GF.
Didn't Know we almost had Shane Crawford for 2006. He might've made the difference in that agonising 1 point GF loss!!!Comment

Where is he now: Marty Mattner (sydneyswans.com.au)
Marty Mattner is the coach of Sturt in the SANFL. Sturt won 17 straight games before losing to Adelaide by 2 points in the final round. Sturt have earned a spot in the Grand Final by winning the second semi under the Final Five system, and will be playing the winner of the Glenelg-Norwood preliminary final."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

While none of our current VFL side made the VFL team of the year, former Swans academy player, Luke Parks, was selected in the backline. Not sure how draftable he is? He was on the Carlton list for a while and looked just okay when I saw him playing for them. But who knows, maybe he's improved since then and he could be worth a rookie spot as a tall defender?
Also making the side, was former Swans player, Zac Foot. I actually went down to the Southport v Frankston prelim final on the weekend (mainly because I wanted to explain the game to a couple of young Chinese friends) and Zac had a very good game. The opposition players found it hard to lay a hand on him and he kicked what was possibly the goal of the game.
And having seen that game, I'm a bit surprised that former Fremantle KPF, Hugh Dixon, didn't make the side. He kicked eight and clunked pretty well every high ball that came his way.

And since the SANFL was mentioned in the previous post, it's probably worth mentioning, that three academy products should be playing in the grand final next weekend. James Bell for Glenelg, and Angus Anderson and Luke Giacometti for Sturt. Bell has been consistently good since moving to SA and made the SANFL rep side earlier in the season. While Anderson now seems to be a key component of Sturt's midfield.Comment

Angus Anderson just became the second Swans Academy product to win the Oatey Medal, for BOG in the SANFL grand final, after Jordon Foote won it in 2020. Luke Giacometti was also in the winning side and had a pretty good game. And of course, Marty Mattner was the winning coach.Comment

I guess Fox would be great leadership for their VFL team over next couple of years - but surely he won't be there when (if) they actually enter the competition."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

LRT was this week's guest on SEN's This Is Your Journey, discussing his entire career, the 2 flags and love for the club. Worth a listen:
Sydney dual premiership star Lewis Roberts-Thomson joined Sammy for a chat about what he's doing in life now, his upbringing in New South Wales, his path to Swans, their drought-breaking premiership in 2005, and the second triumph in 2012. He also spoke about what it was like to play under Paul Roos and John Longmire, his decision to retire in 2014, and his continued love for the club.Comment

LRT remains one of my all-time favourites - so underrated outside the club but so valued within it. Super courageous and hard as a cat's head.My opinion is objective truth in its purest form👍 1Comment
