Aliir was on Yokayi. I glad that he's happy of at PA and doing well, but it's going to take a long time for me to get over that we actually traded him.

Seems there are people of RWO who will justify any trade the club makes - I distinctly remember an occasion many years ago where the Daniher trade was lauded as a good idea.
I guess it's a loyalty thing for some.

And on past coaches Lyon has walked out on applying for the Carlton role.

I have no idea if he was the right fit, but lolz Carlton.

The club is a shambles. Greg Williams is now football director and David Parkin is on the panel to appoint coach. Back to the future stuff. Maybe they'll appoint someone for one year so they can have another crack at Clarkson!

Neville Fields was a fairly good player for us but, yes, giving away a few Danihers in exchange for him did not turn out well for us!

I prefer to remember the huge win we had when we traded John Pitura to Richmond. He only played 40 games for the Tigers. And Richmond gave us Graham Teasdale who won a Brownlow, Brian Roberts who nearly won a Brownlow and Francis Jackson who gave us 100 very good games!

The Daniher and Pitura deals have a certain similarity. The kernal of both was an obsession, and the implications of both deals echoed down the years.

Tuddy had an obsession with Fields and brought him to the Swans, we only sent 2 Danihers in exchange initially, which was bad enough. But then we lost 2 more in the first generation and another 2 in the second.

Richmond had an obsession with Pitura, and overpaid for him, their obsession lasted another generation when the enticed his son to play for the Tigers rather than the Swans. If either John or his son had been as good as expected the deal would not have been such a "huge win" for the Swans.

"Walked out". I think you have to be in before you can walk out. I suspect he got the feeling they weren't going to give him the gig,
so to avoid being seen as an unsuccessful applicant he says he's not interested anymore. There is only ever one person in the room
with that guy. I think the game has passed him by anyway.

I dont think Clarko would go to carlton. Don Pyke's not leaving Sydney. Ross Lyon is out, and they say they want an experienced coach.
That leaves, in my opinion: Buckley, Voss, and Choco Williams.

Williams would be the absolute best fit to take a good list and make them great. Not sure why he doesnt get gigs, but maybe he is happy being the master coach whisperer. He's kind of like Paul Roos in that he comes in and makes teams better, except he does it with all the hollywood mesiah carry-on that Roos does.

I dont think Buckley would be taken, so that leaves Voss who may have improved his coaching by having a lot of assistant gigs since Brisbane.

Yeah I can't get used to him wearing a Port Adelaide guernsey. I will feel the same about Hewett if he leaves especially if he goes to Carlton.

                      I'll defer to Titus O'Rielly......

'Carlton President Luke Sayers has announced the club has settled on the process for selecting their next coach, the winner of Channel Seven’s The Voice.

Sayers said the club’s attempt to put in place a process to select the next coach ‘hadn’t worked', so the Blues will simply use some else’s pre-existing process.

“Sometimes, you have to admit that process isn’t really something you’re good at.”

“We tried, but you know, I just can’t help myself and I found myself secretly contacting coach after coach like some twenty-year-old sliding into everyone’s DMs as if their life depended on it.”

The new Carlton President said the decision was made after the discovery that his idea of building chairs that could turn around for blind auditions would come out of Carlton’s soft cap.

AFL legend Leigh Matthews welcomed the change, saying it was the most sensible approach to selecting a coach the Blues had put in place for more than two decades.

“I’ve frankly got more faith in Keith Urban, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy and Rita Ora selecting a good AFL coach than the current board.”

“Any one of the remaining contestants can’t do any worse than the last six coaches.”

The Voice contestant Bella Taylor-Smith said the chance to coach Carlton was ‘a nightmare come true’ and said she had now set her sights on coming second.'

Heard Brandon Jack being interviewed on the ABC last night about his new book "28".

He sounds like an extremely intelligent, articulate and thought-provoking young bloke. I intend to get a copy.

BJ's book is an interesting, intelligent and thoughtful read - well worth investing the time over the long off season!
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

Completely agree. It's a really good read.
Reading it, I started to consider two of our current Swans in the position of being not quite there: Dylan Stephens and Will Gould, and I wonder what that it is that is holding them back.

I read the free Kindle sample and it does seem like a good read, I'll be buying the rest of it.

Another good piece from him today about why some players just go better when they move to another club:

Why some old flames burn brighter after swanning off with another club

Indeed, another very good piece from him - I'd forgotten about Shane Biggs, and no mention of Tim Membrey, who may not have been in a flag side but has topped the Saints goalkicking regularly.
