If he continues the season the way he's started, there will be clubs offering around the 800k mark. What will it take to keep him? It will be interesting to see what offers come for Coniglio and both Kellys.

I remember people getting the poohs with grundys kicking / felt he took way to long to pull the trigger and left us in turnover territory too often

Overall just trying to keep my perspective re players coming into the Snr team and we as supporters tend to watch them with a critical eye

Lloyd was bagged by so many

Florent not particularly liked by a fair few

      Cunningham same

Yet time in the team and playing roles they have improved dramatically

Ok, I'm putting it out there.....

After watching a segment on Talking Footy last night on should the Swans trade Buddy? The consensus at the end was No!

I am now of the opinion that we won't win a flag with Buddy, as long as the players have a mindset of "give it to Buddy at all costs"

        The way I see it, we need;

a: get another key forward to provide an alternative
b: play Buddy further up the ground, using his field kicking to advantage.
        c: change the mindset.

He hasn't had the same influence so far this year, is he still hampered by injury or are we seeing the beginning of his decline?

So if we look at trading him, while he has currency:

What are the ramifications with the AFL?

What club would consider him? Could we swap him for Coniglio at least the AFL get their wish?

I cannot see it happening, but maybe we need start thinking about this scenario.

It would be interesting to see how often we kick it to bud vs say Richmond kicks the ball to riewoldt inside the 50

Is it only slightly different ie negligible

Mid season rookie draft being discussed on the AFL website this morning. We have a spot to fill with Tippetts early retirement and if our form continues we'll have an early pick. The draft is after completion of R10.

I assume we'll be looking to exercise the pick, could be the next Tim Kelly :-)

Mitch Maguire seems to get plenty of disposals in NEAFL. Started the season with 2 30+ possession games, including as against GC AFL listed players. He trained with the swans in the preseason - wonder what they saw that they didn't like?

I agree. In the past the mindset of management was that we had to be competitive EVERY year to maintain our following & sponsorship.I think we are past that and can afford to plan a "window "to win a flag. The Buddy scenario is worth at least thinking about. A clean out of our higher paid non performers & injury plagued players like Reid should be on the cards as well to follow the Heneberry & Tippert move on's. We have great youth in our side and securing some very experienced skillful hard players should also be on our agenda , far better than 600 to 800k duds. Our club's first signing may be the money-ball instruction manual!

I had a feeling pre-season that 2019 was going to be the year that we had to have in order to rebuild for another stint at contending. That's certainly the way that it is shaping up.

We cannot afford to lose good players in their prime though. So re- signing Jones is important.

The problem with trading Buddy, as suggested by some media commentators in recent days, is that no-one will want to pay him those high figures in his twilight. We would be better to hang onto him than trade him to a contender like Hawthorn for some deal where we get little return in the way of early draft picks and worse, having to include some of his salary in our Cap despite a trade.

Highly paid under-performers will come under scrutiny at the end of season (Hannerbery and Rohan last year) and perhaps Reid this year? I might add that others are also performing well below their best e.g. Parker.

The problem is we have a bit of a hole in the 25-28 year old age bracket. Particularly on ball. The only onballer we have in that sweet spot age is Parker, who looks slow and old at the moment. We aren't suddenly going to get a whole load of prime aged players without trading for them, which means we could have to move some players on. Although again I can't see who we would move on that has currency. Parker? Buddy, but it would cost us too much to do so?

We clearly must not lose Jones, but on the AFL exchange podcast they were saying he is leaning toward going. I don't think playing poorly and not making finals for the foreseeable future helps our cause. And without wanting to put the cat entire amongst the pigeons, I do wonder if the players don't 100% buy into the gameplan.

People constantly talk about how amazing the Swans are at managing their list. I feel like we either have something massive up our sleeve, or we've really stuffed it up.

2019 really feels like a year of significant transition for the Swans. I hope long-term its for the better.

It's interesting to see where we are now lined up with a ten year lag. I feel that we are mirroring the 10 year period from the 2005 premiership with the period starting in 2015. We just lost the premiership in both 2006 and 2016, which kicked off a decline in performance.

Perhaps like 10 years earlier, this will be the year we miss the finals, only to bounce back again the following year to kick off the strongest run of success since the club came to Sydney.

From the little we saw of Matt Ling in the 2nd half of the NEAFL game, I will make the bold statement that Ling will be an outright star. I said in another thread that I thought when Ling and Stoddart were regulars in the seniors, which I believe will be next year, then a new era of Swans' success will begin.

Everyone loves winning the Premiership in 2012, but I really enjoyed 2011. You could see the team was onto something good and could look forward to some happy times in the years to follow.

NOTE: I tried to put a table in this post, but only got code. I will try to figure out how to do it and post it later on.
