Given his contract status and injury record, and the likelihood that they will get nothing for him next year, he's worth the kind of pick that GWS got for Scully or will get for Patton. It's all rubbish.
Agree with your analysis. It just makes no sense at all that any recruitment team would handover 5 and 9 for a busted Daniher, trading their star small forward in the process to get the job done. Even if it was for Jeremy Cameron, it would seem over.

Speaking of the Patton deal, does that mean if we had gone to GWS say with an early second rounder and offered Jono the right money, we could have snared him? If we are so desperate for another KPF, then surely that might have held a bit more value. Jono is more likely to play and return to his best than Daniher IMO.

Does this sound fair to you if Jones is as keen as we believe to get back to Melbourne

Daniher to us in exchange we trade Jones to the Bombers with our pick 24 ?

I think that Jones would very much suit the Bombers style of rebounding via their running HBF set up week to week

I’m amazed that the Bombers have not been an option for Jones or maybe the Bombers don’t rate Jones highly enough ?

The bombers don’t lack Jones types , they have the ultimate Jones in Shiel; dynamic , explosive and quick ball butcher ! Pace isn’t something they need more of , hence their lack of interest in Jones. They need another inside mid or two to complement their outside run , Hence their interest in Parker last year and Powell Pepper this year . The Dees badly need some pace through their midfield though , not sure why they haven’t enquired . Seems an obvious fit , straight swap for Preuss. Potential Win win their I’d say .

HS paywall article suggesting AFL poised to introduce an extra trade period just before start of the season! Players could complete an entire pre-season at one club only to be traded to a rival on the eve of Round 1 next season.

...which will lead to players hopping clubs week to week (just like the NRL).
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I don't know if this link will work, but I compared Joe Daniher and Jonathon Patton's statistics on the AFL website. On the whole Daniher is ahead but not by a huge amount, yet the media seem to think that Daniher is worth two high first round picks and Patton is worth a third round pick. I hope the Swans list management team are looking at this sort of thing!

Patton is a salary dump. That’s why he’s so cheap.

This Papley desperate to return to Victoria, "unhappy" in Sydney: Edmund from Sam Edmund sounds counterfactual given what we've observed and usual player welfare position of the Swans.

Basically says he's unhappy in Sydney, his living conditions, has no friends, and just about everything and is desperate to get to Melbourne.

So much so that he triggered a 3 year extension on his contract to stay in Sydney? What??

Nonetheless, on balance, sounds like he's going.

SEN now reporting Papley very unhappy in Sydney and has felt isolated there. Also, not happy with his living arrangements. Doesn't ring true - more propaganda? Silly season on steroids.

Good point. You can also compare that to Daniher. Essendon think so highly of him they haven't even offered him a contract extension!

And you don't think Daniher is? Busted player, 11 games in 2 years on huge coin? A team that desperately needs some midfield grunt to compliment it's outside speed and run off half back? Bombers would be gagging for picks 5 and 9, move a ton of money off their books and get rid of a player who may never get back.

It would be the heist of the century if they pull it off!

My feeling is that there is a love triangle between Papley, Will Hayward and Ollie Florent. They've all extended their contracts long term to show that they're not letting go. But Tom may be feeling that he's the odd man out and is ready to throw in the towel now.

I think Paps was annoyed that Will and Ollie went on holiday together last year. I didn't realise until now just how much Will and Paps have been photographed together.

I wish I still had contact with The Chicken Boys from Tassie (originally from Sydney), a love triangle that managed to work out, as difficult as these things can be.

If Jones wants to go to Richmond, can we swap him for Riley Collier-Dawkins?

Mad swans fan and exactly want we need!

I think Jones is being really underrated. I've been very critical of some of his undisciplined acts but I think he's developing into a very handy player. A first round pick himself and at 24, he's about to hit his prime. He's going to bite us - possibly even more than Papley.
