Oh, what a terrible situation, girlfriend and family so important I'll jog off to Europe with a bunch of team mates who isolated me in horrible Sydney :-(

I mean, Sydney is so far away from Melbourne, I can't cope with the constant jetlag.

Never seen so much concocted crap in my life, makes Papley sound a risk to himself, shameful (I don't want to call it) Journalism.

If the board has stepped in to chuck this garbage out the window and holding Papley to his contract - good. The rubbish coming out of Melbourne, fed I assume by his manager, is sickening and paints the Swans in a very poor light.

It also makes Paps sound like a bit of a boob , “left to his own devices” ... what he do poo his pants and burn his hand on the stove ?

I’m not suggesting this is true at all but surely he wouldn’t be happy with this stuff being reported, doesn’t reflect all that well on him . And seems to @@@@ on the relationships he has with his teammates / housemates too ..

        Re: Papley

Very interested to hear that our board may have intervened. My first thought was "great! this is the kind of oversight that boards are there to provide". My next thought was that this may be a case of Andrew Ireland effectively overruling Tom Harley. (Andrew Ireland is one of 9 board members but when it comes to this type of issue I imagine his opinion would hold a lot of weight.) If this is right, hopefully it's just a case of the governance and systems operating beautifully and as they should, rather than any cause of tension between Tom Harley and the board.

I will also be delighted if we hold Papley to his contract. I just don't think we are going to get an offer good enough for Papely to make it worth our while. I feel slightly for Papley if this leaves him effectively getting underpaid but only slightly because (a) whatever it is, it is still hundreds of thousands per year; (b) the club took a risk too and if it goes pear shaped for the club then nobody feels too sorry for them and they are just expected to absorb it; and (c) he entered into the agreement voluntarily on an informed basis, having been represented by his own professional agent.
The CEO's role is to implement the direction decided by the board. It would only be a conflict of Harley refused.

The delistings are pretty big news, even though unsurprising, not least because they are concrete and definite rather than all the rumour and innuendo swirling around at the moment. Too bad about Tucker. I agree that Rose will star in the SANFL (assuming he returns to SA) but I thought we were generous to give him this last season. I wish them both well.

I wonder how many more delistings are to follow. We've now cut 5 from our 39 senior listed players (Macca, Kizza, Reg, Smooch, Rose) and 1 of our 9 rookies. I'm confident Bell will be promoted to the senior list (reducing to 4 the number of openings there). O'Connor will become a Cat B rookie, like Wicks. It says here Rookie Players - AFL.com.au that we can have up to 6 Cat A rookies and 3 Cat B rookies (this assumes only 38 senior listed players, for each additional senior listed player you have one less Cat A rookie). I think we are likely to delist at least one more rookie and probably two, although I don't think we'd delist Wicks unless we intend to rookie another Academy player (because he's a cat B rookie). Right now I'm leaning towards thinking that Hirst will be cut and Pink will be promoted into the space made by Cameron's departure (which seems to be a done deal).

So this would leave us with 4 senior spots to fill at the draft (assuming trades in and out apart from Cameron cancel each other out) and two rookie spots, which seems about right. However, I would not be surprised if we keep a space clear to give ourselves to draft someone at a pre-season draft when we have a better idea of injuries/recovering from surgeries/how the new draftees are travelling/which undrafted players have hot form etc.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Basically says he's unhappy in Sydney, his living conditions, has no friends, and just about everything and is desperate to get to Melbourne.

So much so that he triggered a 3 year extension on his contract to stay in Sydney? What??

Nonetheless, on balance, sounds like he's going.
I thought this was one of Ludwig's satirical posts when I first read it. It's a massive blow for the club. Bloody disrespectful too. Upsetting.

If we assume the Barrett scenario is worst case, can someone show me how our selections at 5, 10 and 25 lead to a better result than a fit Daniher?

That’s assuming there is such a thing as a fit Daniher though. He’s a big boy with a dodgy groin , his brother retired early with the same issue . Two years of stuff all footy as a 24-25 year old ... It’s got a reek of Hanners about it . Salary dump. Get rid of him and hopefully the receiver has dreams of him at his AA best at full fitness . Great in theory , reality is another story .

I am not able to access the previous page #264, where I posted a number of links showing videos and articles about Papley's happy and close relationship with Will Hayward. I'm not sure why I can't access this page, If it's only me, or everyone on RWO. But if it's only me, could someone reply to that post with my quote so I can access the information again and reference it.

What I find so strange is he hated it up there so much, yet he is on holiday with a bunch of his team maters.....
Wow whoever he is living with won't be impressed!

This reason doesn't make sense at all. It has always been reported how great the Swans are with regards to player welfare, especially the young players and especially those that have come from interstate. The fact that so many of our young players have extended their contracts would also suggest otherwise.

Those youngish journos from Melbourne are a bunch of clowns. How can someone living in Chiang Rai, Thailand, figure out what's going on when those Melbourne nitwits will believe anything they hear or just make up stuff to try to get a jump on the others. They'll write anything, so long as it doesn't involve them doing any research or real work.

Just another example of lazy journalism, this is the first line from the SEN article on the recent delistings:

Is this what you want? Page 264 didn't load straight away when I clicked on it but appeared when i pressed refresh.

Really? Please. A journo from the herald is now a Carlton stooge. That mob loves nothing more than kicking us (Carlton). Please I thought swans supporters were more intelligent. The article doesn't help Carltons cause and to be honest is laughable when papley is apparently in the UK with mates incl teammates. It's click bait. The swans are pretty iron tight with what is leaked to the media unlike Carlton until the last 2 years. When news Ltd journos don't get inside info they make @@@@ up.
