I hope this remains a footy forum but I will point out that student achievement is a complicated issue with many factors contributing to an ATAR result. However, research shows that the most important factor contributing to student achievement is the teacher with peers/cohort ranked a fair way down the list.

In terms of AFL drafts, just like ATAR scores, correlation does not mean causality.

Now, I am happy if we get Young, Serong, or Flanders in that order.

2. Anderson
3. Melbourne's pick will be interesting and shape the draft, Jackson?
4. GWS, Ash
5. Swans, bid on Green, we better then choose Young.

It would be very interesting if the swans did that, especially if green is not regarded as the best available at 5.

All the swans are doing is pissing off another club for no benefit to the swans.

The longer term play would be to work with GWS. It would be a lot easy to trade for an established player (with a friendly club ) if they are already living in Sydney. Eg. Green in a few years time.

Take the black, charcoal and orange googles off baz. Why the hell wouldn’t we bid on Green? He is rated the best pure inside mid in the draft, is exactly what we need ( long term JPK replacement ) and it keeps the giants honest assuming they match. We should pick who he want at the pick we have. If that players happens to be attached to an academy and gets matched then we pick again. No one is going to do us any favours , look at The Dees with Mills !

Exactly.....funding should increase to state run schools, in ALL areas.....and be massively decreased to what are basically rich, self funded private schools that don't need financial help. It continues to be a society set up for the rich to succeed and the rest to largely fail.....and I went to an AGS school. It's where I witnessed privilege first hand....and ultimately didn't like what I saw.

Having said that, I hope we select Young.....did he go to a posh school?

Young is from Haileybury. Ash is the country school option.
Interesting article on the private schools. They've been offering kids scholarships in my area after the Under 15 V line championships for years. That's their main recruiting ground.

If green is the best available at 5 we should bid on home, but only because of the small chance GWS won't match, and we get the best player we can.

If we are doing it just to undermine then, then I can't see any upside for us. People have long memories.

Several commentators seem to be linking the Swans to Flanders at present. Buckenera in his just released rankings of all draft prospects has rated Flanders as the number 3 prospect. He likens him to De Goey.

I'm particularly wary when the media make comparisons of draftees to current/past "A" grade players. Seems to me a tactic to justify their draft predictions, which isn't necessarily warranted to do so. It adds expectations on draftees who may find it a burden to live up to. In the end the draft is a lottery as there is no guarantees a player will fulfill their seemingly early potential. I'm ok with anaylsing their strengths & weaknesses, but it's a bit of a stretch & sell to liken them to a fully developed A grade player from the get go. What is the percentage of 1st round draftees who go on to have a substantial AFL career?

Buckenara has Will Gould at 7 and Luke Jackson at 18, Pickett in the thirties.

He thinks Flanders has a lot of upside. I’m resigning myself to us drafting Ned.
