See Tom Harley is doing a live chat on Tuesday, which is a perfect opportunity to ask him about the non selection of Cameron. Even if he’ll have his weasel words ready in advance.Comment

After investing in the draft over a period of years and building a good core of young players, the last thing we should do is start trading players, like Jones, who are entering the peak years of their careers, just to start again with another 18 year old. We can add to the current core with our regular allotment of draft picks and continue to find around 3 good prospects a year.
Aside from special circumstances, like personal reasons, we should be able to sign every player we want to sign. There's no need to choose between Jones and Dawson. We should sign both. There's no reason that a regular in the senior side should look elsewhere.
Darcy Cameron would have good cause to look elsewhere, given his lack of opportunity. I frankly can't understand what's going on with him. We've had plenty of chances to play him in the past 2 years, even if it meant playing him alongside Sinclair. Something's not right, but it's hard to say what it is.Comment

Clearly the coaches see something in Darcy that they feel is not compatible with the senior team. This is not to say he wouldn't thrive at another club, just they feel he doesn't have a place with us. Having said that, I have no idea what that could be. He gets good numbers across all of his parameters in the NEAFL. I would go as far as saying no other NEAFL ruckman has come close to his all round game for the last 2 years. Maybe he is a poor trainer and consistently gets beaten by Sinclair, maybe even Reid and Aliir at training, but is one of these guys who gets white line fever on match day. Who knows?Comment

As for filling the vacant slot, Longmire is already confident on who can step up.
“We’ve got (Tom) McCartin so you’d imagine he’d come back in,” the Swans coach said. “We’re really confident in Tommy. We’re really confident in his ability.”Comment

Some high praise for Nick Blakey from the two gurus Kane Cornes and David King
"I think he'll be the best player of this draft": King
King: “I think he’s the next story now. He won’t win the Rising Star. I think he’ll be the best player of this draft.
Cornes: “How many first year players can stand at the top of the goal square and take a genuine contested mark? There’s none that can do what he did,” he said.
“He’s every bit going to be as good as anyone who was taken in this draft.”Comment

I feel very confident now that we can move beyond the Franklin era with 2 young key forwards like Blakey and McCartin, and Amartey looking a promising prospect. Reid is still only 27 and could have 5 more good years left in him if he can stay fit; he's also a good backup option in defence.Comment

It is utterly ridiculous to talk about Blakey to the level that he has been talked up to at this point, and who knows what the future may bring, but he reminds me more of a young Wayne Carey than a young John Blakey (maybe it is the arch of the back). I know that people had referenced his ability as an on-baller and he has played along the wing at times, but he just looks like the kind of player who, with a bigger body, would dominate at centre-half forward.
So, here's to being ridiculous: the king is dead, long live the king!Comment
