Hmmmm tough one to work out where our top pick will go ? I am honestly super confused.

None of these guys really stand out and generally u hear KB and Simon Darymple state that u take the best player because even if he doesnt crack into ur starting side in their preferred position they can adapt and play another position extremely well - Heeney and Mills good examples

I’m leaning towards Hayden young due to his elite kicking skills and having dawson and hayden young both in the HBF rotation gives us a super strong backline for transitions , cut off defending etc and allows Mills to move into the midfield rotation sooner then later

Wouldn’t be surprised if we bet on tom green first though

        Tom green
        Sam Flanders
        Caleb serong
        Hayden Young

I don’t think there will be too many surprises with our first pick. Dalrymple is in charge this year and he hasn’t got a history like KB of too many shock selections in the first round. Whoever is left from Serong, Young, and Flanders will be our pick. The only other possibility I can see is Kemp.

Serong being a Swans supporter and having already been in our rooms after at least one game would indicate that we have a relationship with him and so he might be our personal favourite.

Personally, I’d prefer Young. I’ve read that he will likely end up playing midfield even though he has been predominantly a half back. His skills look supreme.

For pick 25, I’d hope that Trent Bianco is still available as an inside mid with kicking skills off both feet.

Mills is an elite defender who was runner up/3rd? in the B&F. Don't think we will see him in midfield any time soon. Match committee reluctant to release him until they believe
doing so doesn't undermine our backline.

It’s a very fair point, but there is a chance he could be an elite midfielder as well. And our midfield is our weakest third of the ground at present. Our defence do a superb job but they’d be far less busy if we won more ball at the coal face. If he’s this good in a position he’d hardly played before being drafted, how good might he be in the position he was rated virtually the best in the country at in his draft year ? I’d like to find out

I would like to see Mills have a go in the midfield. He finished 5th in the B&F for the record. There is no doubt in my mind that we won't improve our win/loss record next season without a significant improvement in our midfield. Our clearances, Inside 50s etc are not just competitive.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Based solely on those highlights, I'd be taking Young.....his skills look silky with a natural ability to read the play and his left foot is Dawson like. On the other hand, Serong looks like a potential mid field bull. The choice will be a tough one.....or they may go for someone completely different depending on who is picked before us at pick 5. Roll on draft night.

I'd be happy with any of those 3 as I think they'd all add something to our side but the player I'd prefer the most is Brodie Kemp. He just looks like he could turn into a Patrick Cripps like beast in a couple of years if he heals up from his ACL injury without any lingering issues! We may need to wait a bit to see the results but I believe he has the most upside of any player in the draft!

Here is a look at him plus a couple of others that might be around the mark with our first pick.

Agree Stevo. I would take him before Serong on those highlights. The Young types are not easy to come by. With him we could release Dawson into the guts. Young looks like he could fit in straight away and don't forget Rampe is a pretty handy kick also.

Serong looks like a chunky midfielder that works hard but does he lack brilliance?

I don't think Mills will be released into the midfield anytime soon. He fills the Smith role.

With Pick 5 I wouldn't be going for the boys who have had knee injuries.

I can't say I saw much of the Melbourne Metro Under 18's, but I did see the first half of the GF. Eastern Ranges did not have 1 player in The Metro Rep team, but No.4 Joshua Clarke off half back showed up early with his run and decent long left foot kick. Might be a good late pick up.

You have a generous assessment of elite BF. He's not a bad defender, but if they picked 3 All Australian Teams, Mills still wouldn't have got a look in.

Personally I'm on the Mills to the midfield bandwagon

I know nothing of any of the draftees other than what is available here and on bigfooty. Based on this assessment I think Tom Green, Brodie Kemp, Sam Flanders or Caleb Serong would all be very good gets.
I find it quite exciting not knowing who our draft picks will be. It's a bit like Christmas as a kid.

I'd like to see him in midfield as well. He could help solve our biggest problem but Longmire has described him as an elite defender and will be reluctant to take him out of the backline.
