Exciting news, Ludwig. Looking forward to having Ling on the park showing us the skills and quality the club recruited him for. Ling hopefully will have a long run in NEAFL and start showing us he should be in the Seniors.

Tom Papley interviewed at training today
Key quotes: Tom Papley - sydneyswans.com.au
Who will replace Hayward?
“He’s very important to our forward line but we’ve got young fellas and older fellas who can come in and play that role. I’m not sure who’s playing this week but the likes of Kieren Jack can play that role. We’ll work through who’s playing and I’m sure whoever plays can play their role. We’ve got James Rowbottom, Justin McInerney, Kieren Jack, James Rose – there are a few guys who can slot straight in there. I’m confident that whoever comes in will fill Hayward’s spot.”Comment

I'm very nervous.
We have a 50% chance of losing this week.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Hope I am not spoiling the party, but I heard yesterday that Buddy is an out. Mind you I am in Phuket and that came from a Hawthorn supporter who lives in Perth.I will be having a few beers at his place later today, so it will be interesting to say the least, when the team is announced.

But that means we are a 50% chance of winning. Maybe 51%.Comment

We have a debutant, but it's not the one everyone was thinking of.
Congrats Justin McInerney!

With no specialised defender coming in for McVeigh someone will have to shift to defence. With McInerney’s best position being wing, that makes Cunningham the most likely candidate to shift from his usual wing role.Comment

McInerney will run off half back I suspect which is actually better for team balance then having McVeigh and Lloyd there. Having said that, I am surprised COR didn't get a start. Dees have named Preuss, who along with Gawn, will be a tough match up for whoever out of Aliir, McCartain and Rampe gets the resting ruck. Maybe Reid might have to drop back? Signs are not good for Rose considering how he dominated NEAFL against AFL listed players. If that game didn't get him a start then almost nothing will!Comment

I was surprised too that COR didn't get the call-up, but much of the analysis about the Demons this year is that they are vulnerable to the running game, which Essendon deployed with great effect. McInerney is a strong outside runner with both pace and endurance. His inclusion seems to be a tactic to exploit this Demons' perceived weakness.
Credit to Longmire for focusing on the long-term and trying to build a better team rather than just going after a win. It's not giving up on the premiership, but simply being realistic about our chances this year and trying to get the most benefit from the season.Comment
