Yes, mea culpa from me on John and the assistants. They've turned it around impressively and the players are clearly committed.

Always hard to judge the output of assistants, but both the forward and backline are performing efficiently. I suspect Johnson might have had a positive influence on Papley, in particular. And I wonder whether the recent run out of defence is a Kennelly project, being such an effective exponent of it himself.

The coaches have been helped by the outstanding performances of first year captains Rampe and Parker over the last 6 weeks in particular. They've driven the team forward from the back and middle, and set a high standard.

It has also helped that Papley, Hewett and Florent are having breakout seasons, both statistically and in their impact on games. Reid is also at his best; he is kicking with unprecedented accuracy, which has helped.

That West Coast win felt like a turning point, confirmation that the emerging players have enough talent to ensure we are competing in the next few years and having fun until then.

Look at Sydney last 20 years of coaches. Barrasi, Eade, Roos, Longmire.

That's a whos-who of the best AFL coaches around. Sydney is not a place to try new or unproven coaches. We are a power club and attract the best. If we looked around for a coach it would be Clarkson and one or two others we would look at.

In my opinion Dew or Shaw hasn't got to the level to even be considered yet

Swans to offer Horse an extension before seasons end, according to Andrew Pridham.

BARRETT: Does Horse stay or go? It's like looking at a boat on a marina, says chairman - AFL.com.au

"We have a clear understanding of where John is, as he does us.

"No doubt we will come to an arrangement."

            .....and later on.....

"And John's record speaks for itself. There is no nervousness about any of this. John has the highest integrity. I don't lose any sleep over it."

I can see it now. Longmire will re-sign with us on a $5.5M / 4 year deal, announce that he never considered leaving the Swans,
and Barrett will construe that as meaning the relationship between the club & the coach as being on very shaky ground.
This is what happens when you pay people to talk. They do.

Well, that's probably why Barrett was confused.

Actually, now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure Eade wasn't either.

Don’t remember Eade but both Roos and Longmire were first time senior coaches at the Swans.

Not sure Clarko had much experience as a senior AFL coach before Hawthorn.

If clubs want “proven” there’s always Malthouse!

                        Let’s not forget Wallace

Pridham came across a little cocky in that series of quotes in my view. Seems to think it can meander along till season's end. I would close the deal now if I was the Swans. The decision has been made. Don't leave the door ajar for suitors.

He was an exceptional selection, and remember we had Terry Wallace alll
lined up until Roos made the choice inevitable.

Thought he implied they already had an understanding with Horse that would be formalised before the end of the year.
