He was largely invisible but there's not much point in rotating the marginal players in and out of the side on a weekly basis. Might as well just stick with one for a while unless there is clearly a better option.

COR was the only player who distinguished himself in last week's NEAFL game but he's been doing that for weeks and still hasn't won selection. In any case, a spot has opened up for him with the injury to Cunningham, should the MC be so inclined.

Clarke won an awful lot of the ball and was spoken of in glowing terms by Laidler after the game. But while he worked very hard, he really wasn't that good.

In so saying they are overlooking the fact that we are already doing this - thanks to the injuries to Grundy, Smith, McVeigh, Buddy etc. we haven't had a choice. However, it is important to have more experienced players out there to guide and teach the younger players onfield, especially if those most experienced players will not be around after this season. I think this is being undervalued. If Buddy isn't coming back then we benefit from an experienced leader in the front half (I'm not counting Reid as fitting that description). And if Papley is also not going to play, then that is even more true. No doubt Jack's form has been disappointing, and he can't get a free pass forever, but, if the match committee select him, I get it.
If his form is up to scratch then select him, but its debatable as to whether he has earnt his spot. I don't want to turn this into a Kieren Jack bashing post due to what he has done for the football club over the years, but I just can't agree with the "select a player for their experience theory" that's been spouted around here as it fails to take into account the negative aspects that this brings about.

Whilst we do have a lot of young players on the park, they aren't suburban footballers, they are full time professional athletes who spend a large amount of time at the football club getting drilled on tactics, positioning etc. and what is expected of them when they are on the field.

Selecting players on reputation rather than merit not only impacts the guys in the reserves who are missing out on a senior game, that negativity can also spread to the guys playing in the seniors as well if they feel that certain players aren't pulling their weight. Any leadership aspects provided can be undermined if the other players feel that the said leader is getting gifted a game or is seen as a coaches pet.

Last year I finally wrapped my head around the fact that senior players bring more to the side than things that can be recorded on a stats sheet.

With such a young side, their experience somehow improves the performance of the team as a whole. Although I’m buggered if I know how they do it.

I believe that the team will perform better with Jack in the side, but he will be keeping a young player out. There’s a balance to be struck.

So we should select Brendan Goddard in the mid season draft then

He would probably improve our current side in the short term...

Perhaps we can trade out Buddy to get Brendan Goddard in

                I agree with this.

Although Fox has already played 14 games in the seniors, and is yet to produce any consistent footy...So not sure how many more chances he should get.

COR, going on his NEAFL form, is the one who seamingly deserves a run of senior games.

Clarke, from what we've seen at senior level so far, was a poor trade....But given we've brought him in ( I assume on a multi year deal),
we need to give him a decent run of senior games as well...We can't, after just a few poor games, put the white flag up on that trade,

I believe Clarke got a 2 year contract expiring next year. If nothing else he'll provide a good example of work ethic to the reserves but I hope we get a fair bit more than that out of him.

Good on ya Annie for volunteering to captain the sinking ship. You're right you probably would be better. But what about taking the helm and coaching. An Orangutan could coach better than our current lot and ai think you have at least one advantage over an Orangutan. You speak English. You may have others like higher intelligence factor of course.

But Gee I think my cats could coach better than the current incumbent. At least they observe the WHOLE game

But in doing that you disrupt the forward or backline. When Aliir went into the Ruck they kicked 3 goals. He was needed back and couldn't get enough body on the much bigger Ruck man in the Ruck contests in our defence.

Which means a tick for Papley but no return of the Lance.

I'm no medical expert but I'm suspicious Buddy has a slight hamstring tear rather than strain to be missing for the 3rd week.
