I hate 22-point losses. It's our fourth this year.

Our boys need to practise throwing the ball more. Instead they stick to the traditional punch off the hand - so yesterday. The Cats on the other hand threw caution to the wind, so to say. We could learn from them.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Dangerfield in full flight is almost unstoppable - a very good footballer. But his kick to us in the last was a nice mistake. On the radio they were talking up Lloyd but by crikey his decision making at the kick out can be poor. I had no expectation of a win but our moments of fluidity were worth the trip. Pity we stagnated too much.

Where was McCartin today? So much for the value of Buddy drawing the best back(s) when Reid spent most of the last quarter and probably the 3rd behind the ball. It was the same old story of the back line under seige for long periods of time and when the ball did get into our forward line it zoomed quickly out again. I really found it frustrating to watch. So much effort expended for little return on the scoreboard.Comment

I think what happened there was a short throw in. He was trying to get out if the way - clearly not competing in the ruck contest. Ridiculous rule. Ridiculous free kick.Comment

I was looking forward to Horse's thoughts in his presser but the Melbourne journos asked about two questions and the whole thing lasted two minutes! Scott then gets ten minutes to talk about his self congratulatory drivel. "We didn't take any notice of their first five weeks before they got their players back, so they have been in good form of recent times." Can someone tell me the players we had missing in the first five weeks that are now back? Buddy played the first few games as did Macca, Melican and Hayward so who was missing that is in the team now? COR? Dawson? Just uninformed bull dust aimed at boosting the ego of his players who came close to losing against the Sydney creche on their own deck. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Liked the first half and the fact that we took it to the ladder leaders. Less keen on the accuracy. In these low-scoring times, it's the teams that convert at every opportunity who are winning.
I guess Menzel wins the recruit swap this round: 7 disposals, 1 goal vs Rohan's 4 disposals
Thought Hewett was very good again, also Parker, Rampe, Allir.
It's a journey this season isn't it. Onwards to the Eagles.Comment

Not playing were 9 players from our squad of which 4 are automatic selections in my opinion when injury free
Kennedy
Jones
Cunningham
Smith
Ronke
Thurlow
Naismith
Jack
Grundy
I was fairly happy with the effort , flexible first two qtrs in style of play
Then the Third qtr kicking to contested areas was very frustrating to watch instead of going back to playing a little more uncontested and keeping the ball
kicking at goal was really hard watch
Lots of learning opportunities though for
McCartin
Oriordan
Blakey
Melican
AA
Florent
Etc"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I got home from the game about an hour ago. It was a good game to watch but frustrating at times. We just needed to kick an extra goal early in the last to get within ten points and we may have finished it off.
I was in the new members stand surrounded by a sea of Cat fans of course, so I couldn't really let rip but screamed "Bull@@@@" at the top of my voice at one stage in the last quarter. I think it was for the free against Aliir.
The way they squealed all evening about the umpiring had me thinking we were doing ok with the umps and although I was not happy with some of the decisions given to them (and not given to us), I was surprised to see the 22-15 count their way. I shouldn't have been I suppose....
Buddy is not 100% fit, lacks explosiveness at the moment. I just hope he is building towards something better and not getting sorer from playing. Heeney quiet, Dawson great, Aliir solid but lacks penetration with both kick and run.....gets run down too often and kicks under pressure. Parker was a gun tonight, George good as well. McCartin quiet, Blakey flashed in and out but is exciting to watch. Paps tried hard, Ollie not as effective as recent games. I also thought COR and Melican weren't as bad as some have said here and as usual, Ramps solid as....and no weird stuff!
Nice to see Gary Rohan spend a few minutes after the game over at the Swans bench catching up with Swans staff and players, lots of smiles and a few hugs....looked like he didn't want to leave.
Bottom line though.....we are going to be a great side in a year or two. I just hope Buddy hangs in there....Last edited by stevoswan; 1 June 2019, 11:32 PM.Comment

Attended the full house game (happened to coincide with some biz.)
The ground (don’t know what they call it these days, but the Kitty Litter, thanks 707, seemed apt) is excellent .
The Cat fans were quite acceptable around us and were extremely scared of yet another loss to the Swans at their fortress.
The mood of the whole town (naturally) is dependent on the outcome here every second week. If they do have a loss , business in town plummets .
Like all good teams in sparkling form the Cats running and leading into space and accurate passing especially inside 50 was so boringly good. Then nailing their shots killed us .
By the time the Swans think of leading it’s all too late, and they are closed out or they have to go sideways or backwards notwithstanding they fought hard and the backs were as usual amazing .
There’s a ripping Indian eatery in town called Something Hut in the main drag.
Actually I really like Geelong, but it was a mild night they tell me .
They don’t heat their houses, instead they wear their full length puffer jackets inside as well as outside .
My host provided an electric blanket and I was fully roasted by morning .
Every house has two dogs and they have a dog car (putrid) and a fine car (immaculate).
Unfortunately I was taken to the ground in the dog car and it was as a bad omen.Comment

I thought the same- I get why the rule was brought in, but if the umpires don't execute their end of the bargain correctly then there should be a bit of common sense applied (even if it's just the field umpire calling "play on" as soon as they recognise a shallow throw in).I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

The signs overall are pretty good for us. Could’ve won that game if a few things went our way and we kicked straighter. Against the cats at the cattery, a week after matching it with a ( admittedly injury struck ) magpies team . Not a fan of honourable losses but a side as young as ours is, I want to see progress and some good footy and I think we are seeing that. If we continue in this vain we will be beating good sides by seasons end and will hopefully carry that confidence over into the 2020 season. That and another preseason under the belt of our youngsters, next year we’ll be talking finals again.

sick of some of red and whiters citisising the people who object to frees against us, it probably not the frees given against us its the frees we should get but don't. Umpiring has gone backwards over the last few years, suggest Hockinh get that right and we wont have so much abuse of them. Also hoping the Cats get their supporters to view th Goodes film might teach them about racicm poor old buddy copped it every time he went near the ballComment
