Watching the game, couldn't help thinking we should've kept Newman and traded Lloyd. Newman wouldve been cheaper to keep and GC would've given us a great deal to get Lloyd, either in player or trades. Plus Newman is a way better kick than Lloyd and looks like he's put on a bit more speed at the Blues.

      Yeah, true.

      But I can't help feeling we were out-coached by a fill-in.

... albeit a "fill-in" who wants the job fulltime.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

That's a bit over the top. Newman just played his best game, and that was largely because we let him play with no opponent.
Lloyd was our B&F last year, and while he hasn't been as good this year, he is still having a pretty good season overall and consistently contributes. We would be worse off without him, and Newman would be a huge downgrade.

Yep to all of this, except I think that Llooooooooooooooyd has been great this year.

A fill in with a gun ruckman at his disposal and as such, unaffected team structures.... I think Horse may realise our lack of a specialist ruckman (and no tagger to free up Hewitt) is wrecking our defensive and midfield structures. Hoping the penny has dropped and we see Grassy or Amartey come in this week so Aliir and Hewitt can resume their normal and more effective roles....

SO'S I'd like to see Clarke return as I feel it improves the other mids being able to play less defensively. I wonder what the MC will do this week. Feeling is that they might give Amartey a go?

I disagree. Watched alot of Newman's games and he has been good. Lloyd has been a turn over merchant, lacking composure in defence. He's racked up possessions but that means little if you're not doing much with them. Hind sight is everything and I would've been one of the first to slam the club if they had got rid of him last year but I've found him really disappointing this year.

Yes, I meant to add Clarke to Amartey or Knoll as the in's as he's the one that free's up Hewitt.

The key move this year under Worsfold has been the introduction of tagger Dylan Clarke.

Despite injuries, since the youngster was thrown into the middle to combat the likes of Ben Cunnington, Patrick Cripps and Jaeger O’Meara the Bombers are 5-1.

Taking out the opposition’s best mid has created depth and flexibility for the other mids ...
I was thinking this the other day. We have looked best when 2 people are tagging.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

Titus gets it pretty right in just a few words.....

"Sydney on the other hand were quite awful in this one. Injuries explain a bit, youth explains some, but when Carlton lead you at home all day, you have to wonder where the heart was.

The only positive from this was the Swans finally got through a game without injuries, which might reflect how they played."

                          Agree 100%

and, btw, is it correct you receive a disposal kicking in from a behind? If so, you can take away a third of Lloyd's disposals and metres gained

Yes, if you step out of the goal square.

The new kick in rule makes this farcical. You just run one metre out and all of a sudden you have on average 5-10 disposals extra per game - massive for the half back flankers that typically take these kick ins.
