Swans chat #AFL Round 20 Weekly Discussion Thread

Shaun Burgoyne will equal Adam Goodes’ VFL/AFL Indigenous games record when he plays this weekend, Hawthorn v North Melbourne.

Adam currently holds the record of 372 games after he played 17 seasons for the Swans.

Burgoyne will have played in 18 seasons, the first eight with Port Adelaide before his move to Hawthorn.

I know records are there to be broken but I will feel sad when, as is almost certain, Burgoyne breaks Goodes’ record the following weekend.

I remember Mark Taylor making 334 against Pakistan & then declaring, sharing the then record with Don Bradman for the highest test innings score by an Australian batsman (till Matthew Hayden broke it few years later scoring 380 against Zimbabwe). He was very much respected for that gesture & probably most remembered than if he'd scored 1 additional run.

I wish Shaun Burgoyne would do the same, particularly after his recent comments surrounding the Goodsie doco on how he was let down. But I know that is wishful thinking.

At least Goodes has played all 372 games for the ONE club. Burgoyne will have played for 2 maybe even 3 clubs to break/set new record. I always felt Goodes would've played 1 more season had he not been howled out of the game.

Mickey O reckons he could have played 2 years more!

Former Sydney Swan Michael O’Loughlin says AFL champion Adam Goodes would have played two more seasons but was forced out of the game by the booing controversy.

It's an amazing achievement. I'm sure Adam will be one of the first to congratulate Shaun when he gets to game 373.

Oops, you are right. The three commentators on ‘Colour of Your Jumper’ talked about the milestone yesterday and I thought they said he would equal the record this week. I must have misheard.

(Just re-listened, they did say break the record, I’m a twit.’)

So my sadness (re Adam losing the record) will be brought forward a week [emoji22].

            Still, great achievement by Burgoyne.[emoji122]

Bloody Rhyse Shaw is starting to make me like north. Maybe "like" is too strong a word, but you know what I mean.

Rhys Shaw! Have we missed an opportunity? I must admit that I never saw this in him.

I'm sure the Swans did.....he was AFL 'Assistant Coach of the Year' twice (?) but I can't help thinking he wasn't on the same page as Horse in the coaches box and sought greener pastures. Could well be an opportunity missed but we'll see how Horse goes with his cygnets.

Not sure he was on a different page. Since he has been North coach, big difference has been pressure and tackling, characteristics of the Swans teams he played in.

My recollection is that Rhyce went back to Melbourne for family reasons.

And that at the time he was a huge loss. The way our younger players talked about him has been echoed by those at North.

I thought he was the most influential assistant at the club in his last year,

                        Good luck to him

Yes, I like them better than Hawthorn, but I'm not sure if that counts as any sort of affection?

Nic Newman is becoming a bit of a star with the Blues.....who are giving WC a real run for their money. Newman is leading all comers in possessions, goals and Fantasy points at the moment.

Brisbane are very fun to watch.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
