And we tell them fine, take him and we'll bring him home in 2 years for a 2nd round pick. So in that scenario by 2023 we'd have both McDonald and Campbell, and they have a 2023 2nd round pick to show for it all.
That won't happen, but Hawthorn don't have a lot to offer North to sweeten the deal. Is adding pick 24 enough (which is probably closer to 30 by the time it's used) - I guess anything is a bonus if they get the same player at 5 as they would at 2, but you'd think they'd still push for more, which would mean 2021 picks (but surely Hawthorn wouldn't offer their first pick, meaning a 2021 2nd round pick is still not of huge benefit to North and they'd wait another year to use it).
And you'd think Hawthorn would want to use pick 24, given they need to add as much young talent as possible.
Gold Coast also went early and traded pick 27 to Geelong, so you'd think they would have at least asked North the question whether they'd take that to swap picks 2 for 6 - which is not much different to what Hawthorn could be offering.Comment

All three phantom drafts I've looked at this evening (Age, Herald-Sun and AFL's latest) have the same top 5 being: JUH, RT, EH, DGB and LMcD. I find it extraordinary that they match. And I'm still surprised they all think we'll take DGB over LMcD.
I can't imagine KB has been telling the truth either. Only one more sleep until we find out.Comment

I'll be very happy if McDonald slips. I'm starting to get the feeling, that the draft gurus are starting to value 2019 form, over that of 2020 form. Of course, it's quite likely that the club recruiters don't see it that way.All three phantom drafts I've looked at this evening (Age, Herald-Sun and AFL's latest) have the same top 5 being: JUH, RT, EH, DGB and LMcD. Happy draft day ! Does anyone else get the feeling this will be a historic draft for us, the one we look back at in 5 years and say “ that really put the finishing touches on our young list “, as we hoist up our second consecutive premiership trophy.

I love the phrase Happy Draft Day! Feels a bit like Christmas. This could be a great draft for us and let's hope, as you say, we add those finishing touches. It starts at 7 tonight, doesn't it?Happy draft day ! Looks like we will have two top 10 players along with a potentially top 20 player. I can't recall the last time (if ever) we have had three picks in the first 20.Happy draft day ! It's increasingly looking like it will be down to Thilthorpe / McDonald or DGB. From a team balance point of view, we need a big forward more than a big defender. But there is a thought that DGB is just a better player than both.
Who to take? If it's Thilthorpe v DGB, I'd be picking DGB. If it's McDonald v DGB, I just don't know. Happy to leave it to KB and the team!Comment

Watched the latest interview with Kinnear Beatson. Always has a reassuring effect on me. Has earned a lot of trust over the years and I hope he sticks around the Swans for a lot longer. It's increasingly looking like it will be down to Thilthorpe / McDonald or DGB.
