I don't think it is a choice between normal members and corporates. If the technicalities of the health rules allow us to fill the corporate boxes. Then it is potentially more revenue for the club in a financially difficult time.

Also I think having crowds in the corporate boxes will probably speed up getting crowds back. Because it is the first step in the process. They can say to the government that they had a few hundred attend the match and it went fine. So they now they want to try small numbers of fans in the stands etc.

Correct, it's not a choice thing, it's what will get the tick from the government and general admission won't satisfy the health requirements but obviously the corporate boxes may.

But you can bet anything that's is allowed by the AFL will be predicated on what's ok in Victoria.

We now hold our breath for the Covid outcome of the weekend's rallies :-(

Limited Crowds to be allowed in QLD for this weekends games according to Caro Wilson ( no link sorry ) , building up over next few weeks to potentially 25 % of capacity. Maybe limited crowd for the showdown too.

Send in the crowds: Showdown to play out in front of live fans

2,000 club members at the showdown, maybe there’s hope yet for Sunday?

Adelaide Oval put their plan to the government who gave it the tick.

Only one entry point, people seated every third seat with every second row vacant. Much more distancing there than at the ill conceived rallies!

Sorry to be a curmudgeon, but I hate the crowd sounds. Tinny, unrealistic, instrusive, distracting. The cardboard cut outs are silly too. These things remind us of the circumstances and just seem fake and cheap. I had no issue with the sounds of the players and umpires soundtracking the game in rd 1. It's real, factual. Do we really need to be coddled with artifice?

Lol, have you had a bad day?

I quite like the crowd noise, makes the broadcast seem a bit more ‘normal’. I do agree the cutouts are silly though.

I'm not an NRL fan at all, but I've watched a few games in the last couple of weeks because there isn't anything else on, but f..-me if the AFL game tonight (pies/rich)didn't make NRL look vastly superior.
Horrid skills, obnoxious players, boring commentary, over-reach on the crowd noise...
Let's hope it improves. My fear is AFL without the engaged crowd may actually be worse than NRL.

Ha - maybe, I can’t really tell which day is worse than any other these days.

Anyway 36-all draw, eh? Hehe. As I just saw on Twitter, anyone (like me) annoyed by the possibility of 16min quarters sticking round seemingly no longer need to be.

Something is missing in footy, and it's not just the crowds.

Was a rubbish game, but in a normal world this would have been a warm up game. Let’s hope the Swans can deliver a better “brand”

It could be the Swanettes, and that pink helicopter.

I think if I had to choose between the fake crowd noises, and the commentators, I'd opt for the fake crowd noises every time. More soulful.
It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

Update on my above comment made around the quarter time point. I did find the noise monotonously single-toned over the course of the match and therefore artificial.

And the ‘cheer’ after the siren on a draw was a give-away!

I think I still prefer it as background to silence but don’t much care either way.

Wasn't it! I had the volume too low to hear it most of the game, but that moment made me smile.

For me the question is "what does it add to the game?" Knowing that there is no crowd just makes me constantly aware that there should be no noise, so personally I think it's a needless distraction.

I also like the argument from the ABC in this article - that the recording of a game should be an authentic archive of the day.

When someone pulls a file from the ABC archives it's important we have the moment represented for what it is … Those games were played with no crowds
As for the fake banners in each bay, jerking awkwardly to simulate...what?...people waving them? The breeze? Looked like bad Photoshop.

Yep. The whole thing feels cheap, fake and amateur.
