I am completely baffled by the fact that I find myself agreeing with Barry. I too feel somewhat comforted having an Irishman in the backline. What I liked was his willingness to sacrifice his own game for the team.
The fact that he had few stats seems irrelevant when compared to the effectiveness of his direct opponent. He does the small things well: positioning himself in marking contests to ensure at least a ground ball, bravery in covering for his other defenders, closing speed and tackling skills. It’s very hard to see the contribution that players like him make without being there but his actions instill confidence in the group.

That would have to be the most overused line on RWO. But as Jono said in another thread, please stop making every discussion all about me, and stick to the topic.

        Great comment!
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Outs: Holding players and giving away silly free kicks; there are three umpires watching for this!

Hayward; he is very lucky his fist did not connect to Pittard, or he would be looking at 4 weeks

McCartin, no real impact and after a mild concussion can take a rest

Sinclair, can stay in the team but gave away 4 high free kicks: if you can't bend the knees, don't tackle them!

Ins: For Gods sake, lets stick to a wining team and keep McLean and Fox in: both really good

Goal kicking practise; we should have blow away the Roos but some seriously bad misses meant they nearly came back and pinch it

Florent; he must send the week practising hitting up players on the lead; did any of his kick hit the intended target?

If McCartin & Hayward are out, then like for like replacements, then McInerney and Amartey

Just love the Swans proving all the doom merchants wrong again; although this is a yearly tradition now.

Amartey has been injured and is not ready. Talls; Maibaum, O'Connor (Irish), Brand, Gould, Melican & Knoll. Most of those are backs. If Naismith comes back we could play Sinclair Forward/Ruck and McLean as the CHF. This would work. But if not then I have a suggestion. Bring a defender in, a tall and play Dawson forward/Mid changing with Kennedy. Both have the capacity to stretch the Doggies defence they are both good overhead and are very good in close and outside. Whether we go tall in the back half is going to depend on the Dogs. They now have some real talls in the forward line. In fact we need to be aware of Naughton and Bruce and Bontempelli going forward. After all Bontempelli is 193cm.

Like to see Brand and Melican come in so our small Defenders can run and get more ball.

Gray and Lewis together isnt working, might as well drop one. Id say thats Gray as Lewis 3 goals last week bought him a fortnight

Fox deserves to stay, could go forward.

                In: Brand, Melican Naimsmith
                Out: McLean, Oriordon, Gray

If Brands not fit, a debut for Oriordon
Fox will not go forward. He will stay where he is. Dawson might go forward or into the mids you never know. Brand & Melican in would be too tall with Aliir also there.

                If we drop all non performers then we have to go this way;

Lewis Taylor; may have saved himself due to his goal because 5 disposals is not good but I am not convinced. He was in the mids for a while and if you can't get stats in the mids you are cactus.

Colin O'Riordan; I know Colin's main job is to shut down his man but to only have 4 disposals and no influence on the game is pretty bad seeing he is supposed to be a run off defender.

Nick Blakey; He only managed 6 disposals too. Kicked one goal and one shocker 20 metres out.

Will Hayward; Again low numbers. he kicked 2 against Bombers and 1 against Norf. Maybe his other games save him. We'll see.

The Sinclair v McLean argument should be carried out only if Big Sammy is available and fit. But I would not get rid of McLean even if Sammy is fit. McCartin is injured and even if Sammy comes in then we still need tall forwards and both Sinclair and McLean can fill those roles.

Sam Gray; Gray was more than serviceable. But is not hitting the scoreboard. He needs to hit the scoreboard. Otherwise we need to bring in someone like Wicks, Bell, Ling, warner or Ellijah Taylor etc that can do that.

Ok so in saying that I don't believe Lewis Taylor gets saved by a goal. His main role is as a changing mid not a forward. His output was incredibly poor.

blakey has been poor all season. Time to use the knife.

Out: McCartin (Injured), Taylor (ommitted), Blakey (ommitted), O'Riordan

In; From) Naismith (if passed fit), Brand, Ronke, Gould, Stephens, Warner, E Taylor, Bell, Maibaum

We do not have any key forwards that are fit so McLean stays

I can't see there being wholesale changes to a line up that beat the Kangas on the weekend.
McCartin out - Crayfish in. Sinkers to play as a tall forward / ruckman.

We don't need Sinclair forward if we retain McLean, which we surely will.

Hard to tell due to the complete vacuum of information about the scratch match form, but Maibuam may be a good fit to replace McCartin. He has played both back and forward before and done reasonably well.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

I liked his highlights reel, hoping he can settle into life as an AFL footballer and make the grade with us. More magic in the forward half :-)

Playing short quarters means impact players are going to pull low numbers. I actually thought lewis was good and that Will showed good signs.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.
